Vitara hypothetical *JD get your ass in here*
« on: September 28, 2009, 06:15:39 AM »

Vitara and fj h-beams = non interference motor Correct?

Question: if above is true (see above here^^^^) does this mean you can raise the factory rev limit safely on stock valvetrain? If so, what are the limiting factors here. I'm familiar with how valve float works... But is it as dangerous on a non-interference setup like this?

Great minds.... have at it

Or will it reach a point that, even though there is no valve on piston contact, the valve is just staying open and the compression strokes are forcing gas/air mixture back out the intake manifold causing backfiring into the intake and compressor surge?  ???

Just a thought.

Ok last question. Typically what point can I expect to see valve float? Or should I just shut the fuck up and leave the factory rev limit alone until I buy better valvetrain?

What engine are you talking about?  Z6 stock cut is 7200 iirc, I have mine at 7500, I've read of them surviving rape at 8200 but I would not trust that at all.

I have seen past 9k rapage on stock z6 valvetrain. never an issue. idk how it lasted.

z6. I'd love to have a 8k rev limit, but a 9k would be even better. But I know upgraded valvetrain would be in order for the 9k... and probably the 8k...

Think I can up it to 8k and call it a day?

doing your standard z6/vitara build... shooting for at least 275-300hp. I guess I didn't look at it like that. Would I hit peak hp at those rpm ranges and would it carry on through to 8k? Or would it drop off? I'm wanting a smooth tq/hp curve

revved my stock z6 head to 8000 for 14k miles and over 100 passes at the track on 20psi pump gas all day everyday daily driver all summer raped and ripped but motor was always mint. WOOOOO on turboedit

so it wont be interferance, just run cheap timing belts then. fuck the valve float shit no point in revving a bunk a6 head that high unless you make power that high, which i doubt on a stock valve train/cam.

do you just want to know when you will stop making power with stock shit or what? i mean things id worry about would be maybe dropping a valve over power loss.

Ok your running stock low lift oem parts, stock head, stock manifold, stock throttle body

You will be lucky to make peak power at 7000

ok

Those vitara pistons doesnt change the fact that the d series oem top end sucks major balls for power

ok

You like rolex
