One thing I had an idea about was a water/air setup. Get a small 12v pump for $50-70 (they're 50k mtbf, high end), a tranny cooler, and it would be it's own self-contained system using the OEM cooler. You could also add in a thermo switch (in oil or water) to keep it from getting too cold.

There would be zero problems with pressure drop, disasterous oil leaks, or oil temps. You just wouldn't warm your oil quick like the stock setup. I'd definately rig that up if I was going to road-race a car.

You could also just extend the water inlet lines so it goes to an air cooler first, then back to the oil cooler.
