High Compression Turbo
« on: May 03, 2012, 12:08:28 AM »

Gonna build a new engine for the escort this summer. Thinking of running around 10.5:1 compression. What do you fags think?

I would probably have to get custom pistons made. I don't really think you want to run light wieght NA pistons in a boosted engine and I have never seen High comp turbo pistons for a BP

proposed setup:

Ported 99 miata head
Custom grind delta cams
solid shim under bucket lifters
eagles
10.5:1 pistons
HY35 on a topmount
electronic water/meth injection

Wanna try to make 500 on the hy, not sure if it will get it there or not. Hence wanting to run a little higher compression.

500 on the hy might be a little of a reach. Just get some regular turbo piston and crank it to nog. Then spray on top of it to hit your magic number...

my ITR was 11:1 and boosted. but only to the 300hp range. on 92oct.... but with E85 im sure 400hp would have been possible. with forged pistons, no problem.

with that said, i dont know how a BP reacts to high compression. so ehh.

I would think @ 10.5:1 your going to have to run some sort of race fuel to hit 500.

Ya, I don't really want a race fuel car and no e85 in my area. I don't really want anything laggier than the HY so idk.

I should probably just build a 9:1 motor, turn the boost to nog on the hy and see what I get.

Hy should spool nice. I've always wanted to try one. Hx spools a little later than I would like, but then again I'm not really use to rapping it to 8k, and the hx works great for that.

Fuck the spray.

I could just use regular 9:1 turbo pistons and lower the cc's on the combustion chamber to reach 10 or 10.5:1

I mean really, is 10.5:1 even considered high compression anymore. Look at S2k's. Bitches are like 11:1 and love the boost.

It's all in the tune.   You'll be spraying aux injection to lower charge temps, increase knock resistance, suppliment fuel (meth/alc) so no worries there really.   Can you hit 500+ on pump?  No clue.   I hope you do.

If you have the money, try that swain ceramic coating shit out on your stock pistons, head and valves.  That shit is gold.   Suppose it would all come down to how well it's tuned and if your ringlands can take the punishment.

What you planning on using to control the water/meth injection?  And how and where will you inject it?  JD keeps suggesting that anything but direct port injection is a waste of water.  I've collected a few diagrams/instructions to build your own controller- if you're interested I could send them your way.  I'm not quite electronics savvy enough to do it myself yet, but if I ever have some spare time, it is a project I'd like to one of these days.  I be dreamin of a b20, 15lbs on a holset, with my crower 302t's, direct port water/meth injection, and no intercooler.  I was kind of wondering if you couldn't just install a second set of injectors and duplicate the signal from the ecu to have the water/meth spray simultaneously with the fuel injectors?  Enough work-procrastination for now...

10.5 isnt high compression imo since thats what every dohc vtec honda engine made in the last 20 years is.
