Ya so I'm helping a buddy build an LS vtec.  Well he built it, now Im just trying to help him with some problems.

As the title states, its a new complete rebuild, planed the block and head, everything is done right.  He said the head was torqed down to 80ft-lbs.  Now, as its running there is a small drip of oil running down the back of the block near to where he tapped and plugged the b16 head.  As I said its near the plug, but after having a mirror under the corner of the intake manifold, we can see 3/4 of the plug, the other 1/4 of the plug is covered by the head gasket and it doesnt appear to be coming from the actual plug.  So, I cant think of anywhere else its coming from.  Its definaly leaking at the head gasket as you can kinda see it dripping out with that mirror.

I also noticed hes using a cometic head gasket with an 82mm bore when his pistons are sized to 81.5mm.  Could this be the problem?

Ya its going to the machine shop tom to get a plug welded in.  There is nothing else in that area that sources oil.

It was thread locked originally.  Hes still getting 80psi oil pressure at idle???  Seems really high as Im getting 60psi at 5k+ and about 30psi at idle...  Exact same build, only 3 years older.  Oil pressure has always stayed the same for me.

For reference - the hole that was plugged is now drilled out and welded shut.  It does not leak anymore.

I get 80psig at startup in my 'stang at idle until the engine is completely warmed up then I get 30psig.

Ya that's what my buddy is getting.  I imagine its due to the oil thinning out as the motor heats up...?
