Blew up my whip
« on: February 19, 2013, 12:38:53 AM »

Pics to follow when I unlazy myself and upload pics.  Cracked cyl 2 sleeve.  Spiked 20 lbs, tune was good, plugs looked amazing.  Still ran fine, till all the coolant got sucked in the chamber and overheated the car in the middle of nowhere in MT.  Typical.  Blew a hole in a heater hose, cut, refit, filled with some water.  Made it 20 miles to a gas station, tried refilling with antifreeze.  Got on the interstate and fogged it out.

Anyways, put the ls in it today.  I have a b16a block and a b16b block.  Is there a difference in deck height between gsr and b16?  I looked up some stuff on wiki, sounds like i could swap crank and pistons with head into different block.  I plan to send a couple blocks to be benson-ized at some point when i get tax return or something.

I suck at life.   O0

B16A - B17A = 203.25mm Deck ht.
B18A/B & B20B/Z = 211.84mm Deck ht.
B18C - B16B = 212.39mm Deck ht.

B18C1 is the one I split the sleeve on, I have 3 b16 blocks that i traded someone for, all 3 had spun bearings on the cranks.

I put the LS in yesterday (b18a) and timed everything, go to start it, and no compression...wtf???  So i run to work, rent a compression tester, and get 0 comp...so wtf.

All timing marks lined up, but don't depend on the reference.  Check cyl 1 w/timing marks lined up, and its halfway down the cylinder.  So i move the bottom end so that cyl 1 is at tdc (eyeballed  :noel:) throw on timing  belt and realign cams, fired right up.  Guess harmonic balancer isn't right or it shifted ~90degrees.

Fun never ends.  :mexi:

Does it have the key in the crank?

I think the outer ring may have shifted on the rubber insulator. In that case it could be a ticking time bomb.

Yo dawg, you shoulda had a block guard.   :mexi:

Sucks, but you're better off with the LS. Not as nice to brag about but It'll love you more... kinda like a fat chick.

or your mom.

Also, get that crank pulley looked at. Your mechanical timing issues make me scared for your valves.

Ls is my trusty backup, a block guard would have helped but I figured by the time I was making enough boost to crack the block it was time to sleeve :noel:
