Any experience with pureturbos.com?
« on: March 08, 2013, 10:00:15 AM »

Seems to be a fairly well liked newcomer to the industry. Only problem is no god damned dyno sheets, back to back comparisons and shit.  Any thoughts? Prices and such are fair for rebuilds, seems like they have proper machinery and balancing equipment.  What im not sure about is this billet wheel nonsense. Whose designing em  and how durable are the products?

For that price im assuming that its just a full blown china unit with nothing else done. They are charging $550 for it. About 150 more than what you can find them on ebay for. Now some of there Garrett ones are 2k+ so who knows whats up with those. Now with that said, If your looking for a new turbo, I would go with good known turbo, from a reputable shop.

lsd motorsports. Call mike up and im sure he will cut you a Rhmt deal. Or speed factory even has some deals from time. I believe I "heard" ::) that JD can get BW units for a decent deal.

Apparently what they do is take cores and send out rebuilds. New chra with ceramic bearings ect and new billet wheels.  Hes got a remanned garret t28 core with a 2560r turbine and new billet wheel for like 650. What im trying to confirm is whether or not this shits knock off and such.

Nissan fags are the bane of my fucking universe.  I found a vendor there willing to sell to me at a good price an s15 2560R. He wont ship to my ups store, and is dicking me around. Fuck sakes take my money.

I would love an EFR but they are all to big.

Just checked.... Doesn't look like he does anymore. I remember when he said that he was going to start selling them years ago. I know Dustin bought one from him, but it doesn't look like he sells them anymore. Give him a call. Im sure he can get them.

I just saw some cheap reman turbo website (I want to say cheapturbo.com or something close) that had some really cheap reman'd turbos of all different types. They even had a 6262 and a 5852 or something - I mean all sorts for cheap. I was thinking about getting a new CDM turbo and having them dynamically balance it for $50 - just to see how far it is off. Alas I can't recall the name nor find it on google...

Edit: found it on the last try, http://www.usedturbos.net/

There are a lot of V8 guys (Like, a lot, a lot) running the bigger CDM units now and they seem to do ok.

I was talking to TTC about this, if all the new Precision, blah blah, whatever, is chinese casting stuff, would it not make sense that all the other knockoff shit is going to get way better as a result?

They'll make X amount for precision/etc, then X^2 amount for who ever will pay them enough to make a profit. The difference is the QC and the lack of dynamic balancing. I've seen enough PTE/Garret/Etc failures to know I'm not choosing a $1000 turbo for a daily driver, only for a competitive race car.

Most quality turbo failures are on the owner/mechanic.  Most cars I tune have boost leaks, boost leaks kill turbos.  See also random oil supply.

OEM turbo cars have shit last 100K+.  You won't get that from a china unit.

China turbos may have gotten better, and a BIG shaft BIG frame turbo is easier to get to hold together than a small one with the currenr crap whenever tolerances accepted in china, but don't think they are made as well as a Precision.  Hell, look at Turbonetics, they are ising and sticking to older technology turbos, made in china (not by the lowest bidder, albeit affordably) and have next to no failures.

What do you mean by random oil supply? One that's not filtered or metered or  something else entirely?

No, you've got it on all three counts.  Not filtered and/or not metered and/or something else.  #1 rule of hotrods - there's always something else.

I get angry when I see those cheap sandwich adapters on ebay - it would be cheaper to leave some material and drill/tap the holes to the center for filtered oil.

The boost leaks I can see, it seems nobody takes a few minutes to check for leaks. Two plumbing caps and a valve stem stuffed through a hole in one is all it takes.
