'built' *daily driver*??
« on: November 21, 2013, 02:03:30 PM »

I have been thing about picking up another car. almost just want to buy a brand new car, but don't really want payments. something I buy straight cash feels nicer. the hopefully just save for rainy day or whatever.

anyway. obviously "LEAVE IT STOCK" comes up way to often... but I like to fuck with things. the word "stock" usually peeves me. car I'm looking to pickup I would probably just leave stock and drive till the swap I'm building was 100% ready.

so can a built motor be daily reliable? here is a loose idea I have:
B20B
p8r head??
lightly cleanup head casting, no real porting tho
'JDM itr' 84mm pistons
stock rods
new bearings/rings
clean the shit out of everything. etc
Crower 62404-2's. <~yeah daily?  (purchased)
super tech springs (stock retainers)
self ported intake mani P75/blox/something
68mm China TB.
JDM itr header.
2.5" exhaust. big resonator, big maganflow muffler (going for stock look)
leed tuned on crome

trans would be gone threw/cleaned up. lap in syncros. etc
China LSD? phantom locker?  (trying to acquire OEM ITR LSD)

chassis will most likely be 88-91 Civic 4dr (have acquired hasport mounts)
car would retain power steering.
if chassis has AC, will try to retain.

so could this be legit DD build? should I have the block punched over to 84.5? have the head gone threw with guides and 3 angle??

opinions/suggestions/insights?

yeah, but then who would buy this junk?  ::)  sorry, thought you had your cams already. he kept hitting me up asking what i wanted, made offer, got cams coming now... so now i need to build a car around them lol.  depending on how this goes, might be picking up more of his shit.

the extra head i have is a high ass miles (200ish) CRV B20something P75 head. it worth bothering with?

P8R really gonna be worth extra $200bucks?

He kept pm me also told him I would take them but not paid till Monday.

Dunno if the p8r is worth it but I will try since I have one. Dude on that runs a stock port p75 head all motor in the high 11's I believe

Guess there's some b20's with CNC werx running pretty hard without problems

thought about that. but, idk. not sure i wanna spend that kind of money on a NA motor.
CNCWerx
bore
hone
deck

probably be in the bottom end 1000bucks + bearings/pistons...

I have seen std bore n/a b20's crack sleeves. I wouldn't bore it

my B20VTEC took a beating for ~15k+ miles with me, then the guy i sold it to made little more power i think. and rocked it out for several years. he ended up loosing an injector and melting a piston.

im not too worried about sleeves cracking. heat and RPMs i think are a large factor. i wont be reving it too high, and will be keeping an eye on temps. probably be getting full aluminum radiator after the CRX issues.

reason i suggest boring it is that i would be wanting a SOLID ass motor. i dont want rattling, smoking, etc, etc. looking for new car kinda of reliability... i basically DONT WANT TO WORK ON THE CAR EVER AGAIN. just add gas and do oil changes.

also, something i forgot to mention, thought of it when talking to a buddy.

GAS MILEAGE? what kind of mileage i expect to get with a setup like this?

oh yeah, the chassis im looking at is a 90-91 Civic 4dr.

transmission will probably just be a standard non-vtec YS1 cable.

Lame.

I saw an 82x89 build on Hater tech the other day, it was a LSVTEC motor with ITR style pistons and Pro 2s. Made 240whp dynojet?

With 404's and a good gearbox in a light car, that'd be a fun, bullet proof bottom end.

well, im not gonna pay the premiums for a ys1 vtec box (then probably get screwed with a non-vtec anyway). think there is a vtec s4c set locally for ok price, but then i still need a ys1 case to put it in.

also, not sure i really believe this, but wont i be loosing mpg with a shorter vtec trans over a non-vtec? or is that a myth?

I don't care about the rpms or whatever. just the mileage. im use to driving with my itr tranny. I have a B16 in the EK also... but that fucker has been getting 22mpg... itr consistently got 27mpg. seen it as high as 33...

crv gets like 21mpg... which seems stupid low mileage. :-\

My auto crv with the intake cam retarded a tooth(but ignition timing right) gets 24mpg city. I can't wait to see what happens when I finally get around to the timing belt.

small update bump... might just make this my build thread for this project? or maybe ill make another once i actually acquire it and work on it. probably drive it stock for a while...

chassis will be a 88-91 Civic.... i bought some HASport mounts already.  :Jew:

i will most likely be running Crower 62404-2's... as i already bought also  :Jew:

still need to pickup the B20 from buddies shop. keeps harassing me. its got a spun rod bearing.

B20 has a P75 head on it. high miles... worth sending to the shop for valve job/guides, etc? or buy P8R to sent out?!!?!?

my buddy says he knows of a car. super cheap. etc... but of course has gone MIA, and havent heard shit. car has been sitting for like 2 years or something, so its probably still there...

i spent too much money on the GVR4 this month. so i didnt buy some shit i was looking at... but i have been keeping my eye on a set of B16A/S4C gears, and an ITR LSD.
that along with a junkyard YS1...
YS1 non-vtec case
S4C 1-2-3-4
YS1 5th <~~~ is that legit on S4C stack?!!?
ITR LSD

how is that box gonna run? i know 1-4 will be awesome. as i have had a B20 on a ITR trans before. but will my highway be legit? can i get some decent mileage out of this setup?!?!
