EG cruise control
« on: February 28, 2010, 09:41:17 AM »

Anyone know if a cruise control box(the one under the dash) from an auto car will work in a manual? I looked and the part numbers are different, but could that be that the manual box has an extra pin to disengage when the clutch is pushed?

The manual ones on eBay are stupid expensive and the auto ones are cheap.

i do believe you are correct about the extra hook up for the clutch.  i'm not sure tho, but i can find my spare manual one and look for you if you wanted

I have a manual one in my car now. I ran through all of the tests in the helms manual and everything points to the controller. I have replaced the main power switch, steering wheel switches and brake/clutch switches either for troubleshooting this problem or other various things. I even put power to the actuator. The motor runs and the clutch engages.

Clutch gives a ground signal, brake does a +12v signal. Simple relay crap should work.

If the clutch switch is the only difference, all you need to do is wire up a low-power relay between the clutch and the controller's brake input. +12v to the coil, clutch switch to the other coil wire, a diode upstream on the clutch wire, then wire the +12v to one NO pin, and the controller's brake input to the other NO pin. Add a diode (actually a few in parallel) between the brake switch and where your relay intercepts that wire. If you do the diodes correct, your clutch should not turn your brake lights on.

Otherwise, remember to use the brake instead. I did an auto-manual on an EF, and until I naggered a wire into the system, it would slowly rev if I hit the clutch to take out of gear. ;D

I will keep that in mind. I just picked up the controller from an auto, the actuator and main switch for $15 shipped on eBay. I will see what it takes to work properly.

UPDATE:: the auto control box woks perfectly fine in a manual car. i received my ebay purchase today, installed the auto cruise control box and it works perfectly. i checked the wiring in a helms manual and found out the only difference in the systems is the clutch pedal input to the box is replaced by the forward drive gears in the auto car. i see no reason to have 2 different part numbers, but they do

Step 1: buy all the auto's up, shave the P#, and sell as a "shaved" manual box.

Step 2: profit. Jew
