Iphone works, and this morning it's doing all kinds of weird shit.

Took to AT&T, and they say go to Apple store.

At the Apple store, there's 25 sales people on duty, and 2 tech nerds.........and a 2 hour wait to have them look at it.

2hours........

Tech nerd takes phone behind counter, and 1 minute later comes back and says there's water damage and it'll be $200 to replace. 

There was no water in the phone, and the whole operation is completely geared towards making money, no matter what happens. Apple and AT&T will hate me by tomorrow, I guarantee it.

That's odd. The guy was pointing to the charger jack telling me it was there. Now, there was pocket lint/whatever in the charger port, but if I knew they were going to try telling me water got in there, I would have cleaned it out before I went. It's spotless clean now, and ready for tomorrow.

Huh, I've had my iphone apart twice, and even looking at the charging/docking port how the fuck can you tell its had water in it? If you take the screen off, there are two of those water dammage stickers on the motherboard but other than that I dont know how they could tell. If its still under warranty you need to bitch a little more, they will cave in, get a little unruly in the store and they will give you what you want just to hush up.

If its not under warranty, hopefully you've sync'd it with itunes recently, then you can pick up another motherboard for cheap and just slap it in there.

what annoys me even more than those assholes is how they can charge more for an iphone than i can build one for.

i have had to make a few repairs to mine lately and looked into it. you can build an iphone 3gs from scratch for $150. they charge $200. they mass produce these things so they should be able to sell them for less than i could build one for and still make money. that tells me they are making too much money on each one

Looking further into it, it seems lots of people are pissed that the iphone (older than 3gs?) has 4 moisture "stickers". Two actually in the phone, and at least one right under the charging jack (mine), and some have said one in the headphone jack.

Apparently, there have been people who set the moisture sticker off in these more "open" locations by simply taking it to the gym. Hey, great if the damn thing still works, but if you have a minor issue with it, it's an easy route for Apple to tell you to get fucked.

Any bets who's getting told to get fucked tomorrow?   :yes:

No need to lie. The phone saw no water, and I want another one because this one is fucked. I don't give a fuck what their sticker sensors near the outside of the phone say. I'll leave with a new phone, or in handcuffs tomorrow. Bet that.

Amen. Considering free wifi is almost as prolific as 4g coverage and netbooks are a dime a dozen, an iphuck is retarded. And I mean free from city, not including the millions of bars/shops/etc. Maybe I live in a bad coverage spot, but nobody has shown me any live apps that worked faster than old people fucking.

There is condensation/dirt in your doc port.  20 bucks says you're getting the "This Device isnt made to work with an iPhone" then it asks you to go into airplane mode.  Moisture in the doc, clean it, don't leave your phone in the bathroom when you shower.

fyi that's not my phone - I forget to even use the multi-function-ness of a multifunction device. The only apple product I own I got for free (4gb nano), and never use because I hate apple's typical restrictiveness with it. There's a reason Apple only has 5% of the PC market. Gimics.


BTW I think one thing Apple rides hard is customer satisfaction. May be a diff story with at&t in the mix, but if you are at a busy hub your "new phone or new cuffs" will likely succeed.

What kind of weird shit is it doing?  A small circle of white paper in bottom of the headphone jack fixes that sticker problem.  That's how my friend got a new 2g after he dropped it in the toilet.

Just two weeks ago my roommate wanted to replace his phone.  It literally wouldnt work when there was 3g coverage.  It was a samsung blackjack 2.  atnt couldnt figure it out and couldnt replace it for like a month because theyd need to order one from bumfuck nowhere.  So he asked me to "accidentally" break it.  I dropped it into a sink full of water.  It kept working.  I played solitaire under water with that shit.

In conclusion: apple sucks and steve jobs is the devil.

i haven't had too many problems with my iphone.  the speaker is much quieter, so i can barely hear the ringer.  counting down the days till i hit the 2 year mark to get the 3gs, then no matter what, trying to find a problem right before the 1 year is up.

it's good to know that i can get out of this thing at anytime because i have a plan that is like $50/mo and the best you can get now is like $105.  so maybe i will upgrade to the 3gs then give my old phone away for taking over the contract.

Yeah, but they are still crippled by inferior media support.  Some people are audio nerds and only download FLAC files.  No Apple product will ever support FLAC.  So that means converting files.  Same thing with video files.  Apple won't even conceed to play divx files on their stuff.  Divx has been around for atleast 10 years at this point.

I'll always buy off brand mp3/portable media players for that exact reason.  They try to support every file format possible and try to stay current with that support.  I haven't bought a new player in several years, but my Creative Zen M still has better file support than any Apple or Microsoft product.  That's kind of sad.
