Get the camaro, you wont regret it, stock theyre pretty fucking fast if you can drive good.  i have a friend who has a all stock SS that dyno'd at 350rwhp, stock exhaust mani's, intake, stock stock stock, and he put 4:10 gears in it and ran a 12.00 flat.  That car was quick, likely a factory freak but still, its not uncommon to see stock LS1's running into the 12's stock.   a 6 speed will cost you 1k more than an auto, although an auto is faster a 6 speed is more fun.  They don tget horrible gas milage either, on the freeway driving at 80mph with stock geras the car is only at 1700rpm and they redline at 6500.  They have a good amount of high end power aswell, unlike older v8's that fall on their face around redline.

That's all well and good, but finding one is the problem.

The sad part is I was looking at buying a SS Camaro about 5 years back. Guy was selling it because he needed a bigger car and something more practical for the new family. Drove it and the thing was a beast. Ended up passing on it due to the crappy gas mileage. Hindsight I should have bought it because the ones I have found are around what he wanted then with a piss ton more miles.

Doug, cars for $5000-6000 are underwhelming.  Believe me.  The only time you will get something you like is with patience or more money.  It seems the sweet spots for buying decent performing cars is about $8-9k and $12-14k from my searching.  For whatever reason, people believe that their 11 year old cars are still worth top dollar despite 11 years of wear and tear.

I'd personally look for the rare, but good to drive, Accord Coupe V6 EX with a manual transmission.  The auto transmissions don't suck, so if you can live with one, that will make it a much easier buy.  You should be able to find a 98-00 for around $6k with 100-120k miles.  People do think "because it's a Honda it will go forever" so miles don't effect the cost.  Just remind them although the engine may still run, the suspension only stays decent until about 150k miles before it starts getting sub par.

I wish I had enough money to buy all the cars I like while theyre still in good condition because yeah all the newer cars seem like a pain in the ass.  Sticking pedals, dbw, power this and that, electronically assisted door handles, etc etc fuck all that.

I still want to pick up an 04-05 s2k before they get cheap enough for all the teenagers to rape.

Eh I don't know. I've always had good luck in the $3-5k range. I always ended up making money on all the cars. Like you said it's all about waiting. A few of my cars I got lucky on and bought them right away or sold my car to buy it. Others I waited a few weeks until I found a decent deal. The only time I would consider spending a good amount on a car would be one I knew I was going to keep.

Like you said though most people thing there cars are worth a ton even though they are rusted, burning/leaking oil, and missing parts. Every car I have sold I have sold within a few days of listing and most of the time to the first person. Price it right and do work that will up the value and cost you little and your good.

Hell I might just pick up another 4 banger or V6 for the gas mileage and look for something more sporty down the line. I found some 99-04 Mustang V6 manuals with lower miles for decent prices. I get too damn bored with cars. I'm 25 and on my 12th car.

$3-5k is SO different than $5-6k.  I don't know why, but it is.  At least for me.  $3-4.5 just seems to be a sweet spot for older cars.  You accept the bits wrong with it because it wasn't a lot of money.  Once you jump into the $5-6k, you start expecting stuff and you just end up wanting to buy a $3-5k car.  That's my experience at least.

I've been looking on and off for a good $6k car for a while now.  Without going odd ball, I've yet to find something I'd want.  A month or so ago, I could have gotten a 96 or 98 E320 for $6000.  That was my dream car when I was 12.  I was tempted to buy it, but couldn't stand the thought of replacing the parts that were bound to fail in 15 minutes.

Yeah I know what you mean there. $2-4k you really don't care much about little flaws and junk you can fix. Seems like once you go over that $5k mark you expect more. I know I don't want to buy a $5k+ car I need to do work on right away.

Yeah it was my grandfathers that he had completely restored including a brand new crate engine from GM. After he died my step-grandmother sold it to some redneck idiot on her side of the family. My mom found it at a title pawn place and bough it for me as a B day present. Come to find out the guy had cut off the full flowmaster exhaust to stick on some cherry bomb mufflers that ended under the cabin and held up with close hanger wire. Cut the springs so low it scrubs like crazy and dented the tail gate.

I might drop a few hundred in it to get some new tires and exhaust fixed and sell it. Either that or my brother said something about fixing it up and driving it as his first car, but that thing rapes on gas.

Woulsd you care to put a wager on that????

this is the dumbest argument ive seen today.  stock Z28's run mid 13's all day and do trap over 100.  I have not seen any STOCK D16's turbo'd that would do that. high 13's sure, maybe but not gonna get the Z.

Im sure there will be a bevy of Streetfire videos to follow. most will contain the description "Stock except the meth injec. or cam or runs E85" or something.

Bottom line the chances of you simply slapping a turbo on a Stock D, tuning it and running faster than a mid 13 sec car is slim.  if you can do it go buy a lotto ticket.
