what rods are you using? 6010, 6011  7018 or what.

i its a 60xx rod run it down hill.   if its 3/32 which im assuming it is max the machine out and run it downhill.

if your welding with 7018 then u wan to run it uphill.   u will not get shit for results running the rods in the wrong direction.

I run 6010 uphill all day, in fact you can get run off a job for going downhill with it...unless of course it's a pipeline.

For what he's welding, I'd get some 7018 and go to town. Much easier to run than 60** for noobs

welding it is fine, just dont' breathe the smoke.  if you do, and get sick, the guys at the cement plant said that milk makes it better.  dont' know about that one though

where the fuck are you guys finding welders for $60?  Yes, i see this one says its from walmart.  Walmarts near me have a cheap fluxcore for $150.  Cheapest I can go is $109 for one from HF brand new.  Although I could try asking about returns they haven't restocked yet.  A bunch of people around here buy then return from there.

That's explain it.
