LSVTEC New headgasket, Still blows coolant

A friend of mine has a sleeved B20 bottom end and ITR head. It started blowing coolant out the tailpipe and overheating.

He wanted his headgasket replaced so i did that for him. stock B20 headgasket. Resurfaced the head. sprayed copper sealant on the gasket and torqued it down per arp specs.

Started the bitch up, and blead the coolant system. It ran fine with no smoke for 2 days. now this bitch is at it again?

Im not sure where the hell its coming from. I checked the sleeves for cracks, and made sure the deck was straight and none of the sleeves dropped.

You guys have any idea? crack in the head?

I mean, if it was fine for 2 days then suddenly started again, I wouldn't expect a crack in the head as that would show problems immediately.  I'd lean towards bad surface on the block, but who knows.

The bottom of the sleeves are usually sealed with RTV or epoxy.

Also, did you shorten the alignment dowels?  Most aftermarket LS/VTEC specific dowels should be short enough, but the modified head/block with stock dowel setups can have problems too.

Should have pressure checked the head?

I'm going to take a guess either the cylinders seperated and thers water leaking through.

RS Machine. And built by JG engine dynamics.

The Failpro headgasket I put on my LS-VTEC didn't fit the dowels.  I hammered the dowels into the holes, which kinda warped the headgasket, then sandwiched it between the block and head, torqued down, and haven't had any problems ???

I diagnosed a car that had coolant in the oil. I went to autozone and rented a chemical block tester. It passed the block test indicating it wasn't the headgasket. Then I rented a coolant system pressure tester and drained the oil and left the plug out. Pumped it up and got no coolant running out of the oil pan. Pressure held steady for 20 mins. Then I tested the cap and it wouldn't vent pressure. What was happening was the coolant system was building so much pressure that it was pushing coolant under the headgasket and into the oil passages/cylinders. Changed the cap and it fixed the problem.

If its an old school rs block you sure the sleeves didnt drop? Alot of them were done pretty sloppy when people first started doing the sleeved blocks.
