A/C Refrigerant ALTERNATIVES???
« on: May 07, 2010, 02:55:44 AM »

Im buying a wagon that still has A/C. The A/C doesnt blow very cold. Fuck converting to R134. That just seems like too much work, and too expensive.

What do you guys think about alternatives? Freeze-12? ES-12a? Anyone have experience with any of this non sense. Ive done a little bit of research, but its like searching on Honda-Tech, where you get a bunch of clouded biased opinions, all fucked by some propaganda and politics, mixed with some nut hugging, and a lack of real experience.

So Id rather ask you fucks.

About 8 years ago I changed my car to R134 and just used the adaptor valves and vac'd it down and refilled with R134, was still cold when I sold it a year later. If you have access to A/C gear for free just try that first.

+1 Did the same thing to my 90 camry just buy the conversion fitting(10-15$) ...make sure you add PAG oil if theres none in the system(2-3oz added if theres none) then vac it down and fill with r134a

Had it about 2years...had not one problem

I know a local Taxi cab company who emptied all of there a/c system after fixing any possible leaks.

Then converted to propane as the refrigerant.

Work great.

There was a 60minutes on that and redtek (basically over priced propane). Nothing like driving a rolling bomb.  ::)

Don't half-ass the conversion. Mixing the two can cause "black death" and ruins the system.

I bought one adapter valve, once, and put it on a 90 degree R-12 adapter so I could charge as many R12 systems with R-134a as I wanted to.

Evac and vacuum the system, fill with R-134a.  It will be cold, and there is NO chemical reaction from mixing - all of that is propaganda to sell you shit you don't need.  I've been doing this for a decade now to every car I touch.

Back when they quit selling R12 at Vato Zone I needed to recharge my A/C in the EF hatch. I just drained it the best I could holding the nipple down with a screw driver then put a can of the R13 with oil and the R13 without oil till it was full. Worked fine for the few years I had it after.
