Why can't anyone design something worth a fuck?

You have to shut the damn thing off, press menu, go into some BSOD esque screen to turn on captions.  I know it's an HDMI limitation to some degree, but they couldn't come up with something a bit more elegant?  Couldn't keep it in the menu without shutting off the damn unit?  Fucking retarded.

The damn box does not know how to run 2 ratios either which I find amazing.  It's either 16:9 or 4:3.  How does that remotely make sense?  Am I the only one that prefers to watch TV in its native resolution?  If a show is a standard definition show, show it 4:3.  If it's HD, show it in 16:9.  What's the complication?  Send the different signal like a coax cable does and if some retard wants to stretch their image one way or the other, let them select that setting in their damn TV's menu.  Don't make the rest of us suffer.

As fucking ridiculous as it sounds, I'm making a tech come out tomorrow to make this work properly.  I doubt it will.  Who fucking approved this piece of shit?

COMCAST is a fucking joke PERIOD.

This shit has got so expensive, ive used them for 6 years now, my bill (double play) just went from 75 to 130 and when i called they said the double play was a promo thing that expired, i told them i was never fucking told it was a promo and either fix it or cancel my acct. The "advanced Customer Manager" agreed to give me another 6 months at my 75 dollar rate.

WTF? On the east coast i was paying HALF that, if there were any other high speed internet options i would for sure get satellite.

I still like watching live TV.  I watch quite a bit.  HTPCs won't allow me to watch sports live.  Nor will it allow me to watch the World Cup in HD on ESPN.

As for cost, we get the triple play package for $125+tax with Starz and HD.  The price is more than I think it's worth, but it's not out of control.  I'm just pissed that I don't have Fios in the area.  I'd like to bid the two companies against each other so I never have to spend more than $100 a month for triple play.

As for the tech, I just want to waste their time.  Fuck them.  I can't believe this cable box is this fucked.  It's horrible.  Even the guide menu isn't to scale.  It's fucking terrible.  Even in HD, it's stretched to hell.  They couldn't fucking keep it at a 4:3 ratio?  Instead they had to stretch it out?  It's amazing what shit these assholes will put out.  Fucking box is $10 a month to rent.  What a fucking joke.

I have to say it was a pain in the ass, there are notches in the inside of this cylinder and you have to push something in the notches to push down some pins while unscrewing it.  Then since I'm in a duplex setup and the neighbors cable was wired into the same box I just hooked up a splitter from mine and he's paying me money for cable tv and wireless from my router.

Last weekend SOMEHOW the box was put back on.

comcast is tits. be glad you dont have charter. HD box is horrendous, tho it will display native resolution. God forbid the power goes out. It can take an hour or two before it decides it feels like powering itself on. Then another 20 minutes to do its 1st sync.

I've waited ALL day for my comcast box to sync numerous times. I seriously wanted to get a computer type battery supply for it this spring. I have no box in my bedroom, but one in my living room. I have tiny little apartment, so my bedroom is connected to my living room. My point is that I can't have the t.v. in my bedroom on without wanting to punch babies from the lag. I hear whats going on about a minute and a half before it happens from the t.v. in the bedroom , before I see it in my living room.
  As far as HD, I'm a broke nigger with a "32 CRT t.v in the living room, and a "19 CRT in the bedroom. Fuck your flat screen.

Our HD box works fine and displays in the ratio depending on what you are watching. If I have it on a HD channel and it plays a non HD show it plays it in 4:3. The price does get ridiculous though. Just call and bitch and threaten to leave and they will give you a "promo deal" for six months. If they don't just cancel it, wait a couple days, and sign up again.

That won't work with Comcast much longer. Starting in either June or July you have to have a digital adapter box since they are going all digital. Sure your tv might have a built in digital tuner (like mine does), but most of the channels are scrambled so doesn't help.

Same here. If someone is watching something in the living room (HD box) and in another room (non box), the non boxed program is a good bit ahead of it which is annoying as fuck hearing an "echo".

Its because the box has to process it, when its just coax to tv there is no processing involved.

I agree, I fucking hate comcast.  But I had FiOS for a few weeks too and its not much better and it IS more expensive/contract. 

Like doug said, I do the same shit.  Every time comcast tells me my promotional time has expired I call them up and threaten to quit, done it about 6 times now.  Just call them and tell them to transfer you to cancellations and that you can't justify the price anymore, they'll lower it.  I pay $80/mo. right now for internet/catv with a HD/DVR and another HD box for the bedroom.

My HD box in the living room is hooked up to a Pioneer Elite reciever via hdmi, then to a projector via hdmi, I have no problems with it displaying 4:3 content IN 4:3 and 16:9 in 16:9.  SD TV looks HORRIBLE on a 105" screen, I can't even stand to watch SD programming anymore.  That was the one thing about FIOS I liked, the SD looked MUCH better then Comcast's SD.

Well I got the new DTA box today that they will be soon requiring. This thing sucks ass. I actually lost channels, that I was able to pick up before (some digital channels that were unscrambled and my TV received).
