i got a shitload of spare trannys for parts.  i cant split this shit.  i cant hold the snap ring and pry the cases apart.  ideas or suggenstions?

Start prying apart first, get a screwdriver wedged between the cases, open snap ring, push on screwdriver wedged in the case

Don't forget the interlock guide bolt

i got it apart.  looks like a shift fork def took a shit.  i have an 88si tranny here.  will the 1-2 shift fork work?  im too lazy to look up at majestic

Any shift fork from a cable tranny, should work in another cable tranny. Not sure about hydro trannies, but I have HF and DX forks in my SI tranny.

i just did a search on majestic and they show different part number for an 88si and a 91 si.  im splitting the case on the 88 right now.  someone help me now.  i cant leave my work van outside.

88-91 all interchange $62 + shipping, I charge $80 installed during ISB + 4 seals service.

BTW if you order axle seals, order for 92-95. Honda has the parts database fucked up, you end up getting a Wagon/ZC driver side seal instead.

One more thing. That single gear on the small shaft. Maybe its something with reverse. Well I didn't notice which way I pulled it off but there is a little offset to it. I installed it with the bigger space on one side towards the case.  Is that right?

That is the reverse idler gear, and yes that is the correct way.

Yes, the bigger side goes down. You should only be able to get the selector itself, on, in one position. If its upside down, I think it will hit the gears on the input and counter shafts, and the selector wont sit right.

And yes, thats reverse. It locks the two shafts together, so it will rotate the diff backwards.

easy way to remember which way the idler gear goes

D = thumbs up
B = thumbs down

thumbs = beveled teeth.

I've NEVER installed an idler upside down. It was the first thing I learn when I watch my first tranny get split. Murphy had to split Dave P's tranny because of no reverse as the idler was upside down.

thanks a bunch dudes.  its back up and running now.  cleaned everything out, took the fork assembly out of the 88 tranny and fit great in the 91.  feels really good now..
