1st gen cam timing marks
« on: August 04, 2010, 09:32:28 PM »

Anyone know how to line up the cam on the 1st gen crx FI motor???

the cams are different than all the newer motors, they don't have the same marks.

there is a tdc mark for the crank pulley but i don't know how to set the cam

going out on a limb but are you talking about a 1st gen ZC. I could think that you could check the distributor to see if it lines up at the no1 terminal?(assuming its like a normal honda and the distributor only goes in one way.  i mean its at least a start??

it could be 180 off that way...

what i have heard and am going to try is cam marks level with head and the side with the numbers on it facing up.

thats why i suggested look under the cap to make sure the rotor points towards no1 and not no4

What the fuck? Hes saying that the cam gear doesnt say ANYTHING about up. Only the side marks, that you would level with the head. So if he doesnt check to see that the dizzy is at #1, he could set it 180* off.

Once again Johnny knows everything.

I guess he is too goddamn dumb to look at cam lobes to figure out how to net set the cam 180 out.

I own Foowee's old 86 Si.  Bone is correct, Johnny is dumb.

Johnny, DasShit posted up a MOD pass recently.

Johnny, there are links to Classic Si Helms manuals stickied in this forum.

Johnny, is this your first time working on a car?  I don't mean one of your imaginary nine second 52 mpg turbo builds that never have a problem and still run to this day, I mean working on a car in the real world?

I think you went to her neighbor's house, mom's lost a lot of weight due to the cancer.  I know it's an easy mistake for you to make, you see a real fatty unloading four dozen boxes of twinkies from her car and you get all sweaty palmed with excitement, don't even stop to check the house number.

Mom's probably lonely if you want to go over there and do some work now, though.

Just put the belt on n go...  If you're off a tooth you'll be able to tell by the way it drives.

When I originally purchased the 86, that Joseph now owns, the cam timing was so far off it was causing the car to overheat.  I'm fairly certain you have to be off really far to bend some valves.

Also it's impossible to be 180 degrees off with a sohc...  the cam spins half the speed of the crank...
