...Also it's impossible to be 180 degrees off with a sohc...  the cam spins half the speed of the crank...

I want you to think about that statement and tell why you are wrong.

Cause the dizzy drive can be slopped out n put in backwards?  If the dizzy key was removed from the dizzy and replaced incorrectly?

I don't see how I'm wrong...

on a 4cyl with 90 degree firing angles its possible to be 180 off. only motors i have worked on that cant be 180 off are 3 cyl geos because the crank angles are 120 degrees apart.

Think about this.  When if ever will the engine ever have both valves closed on cylinder 1, while pistons 2 and 3 are at TDC?

Never in a 4 cycle engine that I am aware of will you have both valves closed while the piston is at NDC.

both valves will still be closed at the bottom of the power stroke the exhaust usually opens around 30 degrees back up on the exhaust stroke

Not exactly what I was trying to get at, but I didn't think of that scenario.

Okay...  1 and 4 are at tdc.  2 and 3 are at bdc.  Flip the cam 180.  Which valve events change kids?

I have been thinking it thorough in my head, and I was thinking crankshaft 180 degrees out apparently.  Different story.

In short you are correct, although possibly too narrow in scope?  Now that I think about it, it doesn't matter on any 4 stroke engine.

I R an idiot.

Random-strike threads always make me feel smarter after I read them. By smarter I mean superior in comparison.

What do you call 50 of johnny's posts at the bottom of the sea? A good start.
