FORD engine questions
« on: August 09, 2010, 11:20:42 AM »

alright being as im from iowa and we do hillbilly shit, we raced a bus this year, redneck yes! haha but damn fun.
well we got beat by a few diesels with pumps turned up they are suppose to remain stock but, but ours has a 2 barrell 370 that ran pretty good, i'd lie to throw a 4 barrell on it , does the 429 -460 work on them? i have been searchin sites but cant find much, the bus is an 87 b700 im pretty sure.

let me know whats up

Was the 370 pulling intake vacuum at wot with the 2 barrel?

idk if the 429-460 intake/carb will fit on your 370...

im not really sure on the intake vaccum i'd just like to slam a 4 barrel on it with a nicer manifold and a nitrous plate, or fuck the 4 barrell and just make a plate?

this is what made me wonder about the compatabilty of the engines and people are calling the 370 a Big Block.

we just want to put some nitrous on it for the straights they are just running around a cirle track  8-10 laps.  two races.
the bus that beat everyones asses was a turned up international  dt466 i think

You might find big tube long tube headers make a bigger difference than a carb swap.  IDK if that's in the rule book.

if they consider the 370 a big block why not try to find a 460 in the bone yard and swap it in it will pry come with a 4 bbl too

Twin remote mount Holsets run through a couple mufflers fore and aft to muffle the whine would also not lift an eyebrow.

finding big tube headers would be tough to find, i have been thinking of finding a motor. we would buy a new bus but this shits for fun and we are the "underdogs" with and old gasser, and we are thinking nitrous because its easy to hide, turbos not so much. but would be kick ass.
we have the seats gutted out of it also, and we are going to go a little farther with cutting holes in the frame and shit like that.

what do you guys have for ideas or any junk that would be worth a fuck for this thing?

Do a Red Green floating bus setup to get the weight down to nothing. ;D

Just get a F350 460 w/ 4bbl carb in it w/ long big pipe headers.

Then throw a 250hp nitrous kit it and watch the jaws drop. ;D

no, no mods, but they wont be able to tell a motor swap since some of the b700 busses did have 460s i believe.
and we dont give a fuck its not a big serious race its for the fuck of it we just want to win.  and if that entales cheating so be it haha, people spending thousands on turbo diesel busses and turning up the pumps and clamping gates is cheating but you cant see it.

The smaller FE motors are fucking tough as nails. It will take a 250 shot, and laugh at you. The biggest thing is to get air to it. Get a vacuum gauge, and make sure you aren't pulling vacuum at WOT, if so, find a bigger carb. You shouldn't need more than 600cfm really. Just bolting a carb from a 460 on will probably hurt you more than help, the jetting would prolly be too much. Find a similar size engine in a junkyard and rebuild the carb. You have access to a wideband? If so, you could just re jet the 460 carb accordingly. Then address somehow getting those shitty manifolds off. Any way possible.
On a sidenote, I want to see a schoolbus smoking one pair of rear wheels when you hit the spray.

I'm pretty sure it'd take more.  Stock 302 take 200 shots if you stud the heads and mains to reinforce the flexi-flier blocks, and this is old school jet-by-the-seat-of-your-pants and generic retard era tech.
