The local shop are Home Made as fuck, and decided a bathroom scale would get the call.


I've never seen this shit done before, but the premise is that the triangle gives a 3 to 1 ratio, and the other 3 wheels have blocks under them to raise them to the same level as the one on the scale.

hmm go to Lane Bryant for those scales mine only goes to 300lbs

with the reduction of the triangle piece, a 300lb scale would work.

2400lb car @3:1= 800 lb car divided by 4 = 200lb per wheel

i live by a bunch of circle track guys and used to just ask them if i could use there scales. used to buy 205 wide 13s from there legend cars too

I highly doubt that the suspension is settled.  If it was drive on that would be different.

it doesnt have to be settled for weight. only ride height and alignment need it to be settled

+1 just make sure you weigh in with 1/2 a tank that way it will have less effect if either full or empty

I think the bathroom scale costs more than some strain gauges, but A+ for doing something useful and not making excuses for why you don't own $2500 scales.

I remember reading about this bathroom scale jazz in a chassis setup book and have wanted to make one since.  Seeing one functioning helps... 

Kinda want to make some that bolt to the hubs.  To make it easier to adjust the chassis while loaded...

Also keeps from biasing the scale by not having the tire perfectly centered.

Actually the weight is pushing down on a point on the lever system. Thats why there is a plate under the tire that pushes down on the point of the angle iron.You can put this on either side of the tire and you get the same reading.And the scales were $7 on sale at menards  ;D

Well if you use a thick rod as a pivot and a platform like a bike pedal, it doesn't really matter. The wheel remains vertical, keeping it from tipping off the pivot. Move the load side to side but keep it level, and the pivot point sees the same load. You just need to have those pivots equally spaced on both ends of the car.


I will have to make some of these if I get ground controls...
