ls vtec cam timing
« on: August 17, 2010, 08:04:54 PM »

Hi I built a ls vtec
b18a1 bottom
gsr head
gsr cams
gsr belt
gsr water pump

I got the belt on works fine drives fine. It just looks to me like the cam sprocket lines are not lining up perfect just a hair off. Is the ls bottom just a hair taller? I know with mini mes you run into all kinds of cam timing problems due to this. Is there an easy fix?

Non-VTAK B blocks are shorter, thus the timing marks are not quite dead on.

Its something like 0.55mm shorter, so it should retard the cams a little bit. Here is the way I remember what advance and retard does. Advancing helps low end, so it helps earlier (more advanced) on a dyno sheet. Retarding the cam helps top end, so it helps later (more retarded) on a dyno sheet.

Since the longer stroke will help with low end a little bit, that won't drop vs a gsr, but you should pick up even more top end than expected. Theoreticly according to cam timing, yet it tends to work this way.
