Eagle vitara setup Q's nsfw
« on: August 21, 2010, 09:19:06 PM »

Well since my sohc shit the bed i now am gonna put together a z6 bottom end with eagles and vitaras, if i mill the shit out of the block to get a more desirable piston to deck will i fuck myself as far as timing belt length goes, or is it still able to be adjusted with an adjustable cam gear? or should i say fuck it and leave it low compression. I work in an engine building shop, so machining bill is not a concern. my turbo is pretty small at .42 and .48 so i dont know how much sauce it will actually be able to push to make up for that low compression

The whole point of Vitaras is to have 7.5:1 CR.  If you want a 9:1 engine buy forgings and enjoy the engine coming apart more often because it's not 7.5:1 CR.  Seriously, Vitaras are not a well made or particularly high quality piston.  They are very much not OEM quality.  Why do they work so goddamn well?  Because they are made out of sloppily cast china shit metal and everyone decks the hell out of their block to raise the CR?

I DD a 7.5:1 vitara block and a t3/t4 with a .63 turbine. It's fine. With that tiny ass turbo, it will spool quick and low comp won't matter

ok sweet deal, the last set of forged pistons i had melted pretty good so im going vitaras cause its cheap, i was only thinking of decking to bring the compression up in case my turbo cant keep up,but ill toss that idea and find a bigger turbo if its a big problem when im done

That's a lot to machine off of a block. It probably could be done but I have never even thought about it to look. I would guess you would have some interesting timing belt issues

I have my z6 block decked 0.020", w/ vitaras and using a y8 head running 8:1 compression. Works great with my s/c.

We'll see when I strap the He351ve to the whole sha-bang. ;D

For me it was cheaper to buy used TT rods and get my machine (like decking, boring, and honing) my block for free at the machine shop at the foundry I work at. ;D

But yeah for most people that would be the best idea.

I took .075" off the deck of my a6 vitara build...  I had to shorten the oil control jet and the dowel pins.  The timing belt did not give me any issues.  I did have to get an adjustable cam gear.  Would I do this again?  Probably not...

Skip the compression milling.  Just crank the boost till you run out of octane.  Then get more octane n repeat...

My z6 is a ~8.2:1 wiseco/eagle failure w/o any decking I can see. I'm still getting the same lackluster low end, yet I still manage decent gas milage as a daily driver. It's close to twice my sol's b16a3 output, yet it beats it in gas milage. Both have low load ignition timing pushed beyond stock as I run 93 in both, although I have gobs of it added for the d16z6.

So there you go. Low compression single cam turbo > higher compression NA dohc vtec. It's also quieter if I want it to be. :D

I haven't noticed any loss in power going 9:1 to 7.5:1 but I have noticed my gas mileage going from 35-40 to 32-37ish.

What?! when I first put together my vitara d16, the d15b7 would run circles around it. I dont notice the power loss now, with about 30psi from an ebay turbo.
