high boost tuning/base map advice

well the d15b motor is done and just about in, just final touches to go and we have some real power but ive never really tuned anything high boost on 93, just my tired old z6 at 12ish psi

setup
d15b 75mm vitaras STD rods 8.3:1
delta 272, PBT special  :noel:
RC 750
walbro 255
speedfactory 4bar(same as fagdata but lifetime warranty)

need some advice on how to setup the higher boost timing, right now i just did a step retard like so

0-3 .5
3-5 .75
5-7 1
7-13 1.35
13-22 1.5

the issue im running into is it pulls a TON of timing its al at -6 in the high boost :P
not really sure what acceptable base numbers to start with so any advice would be awesome ill get a screen cap of the map in one minute.

also some target AFR's that most would reccomend like between x and x boost x afr is good know what i mean?

I'm running nearly an identical setup on a z6, same cam and all. Running about 30psi, just left the ign retard at like 1deg/lb and its been running strong all summer. Made 373whp, 337tq at 28psi, the clutch started slipping on the dyno.

Just do .75 degrees retard building the base and target 12.5 afr up until 10psi then go to 12 from 10-15psi  from 15-29psi target 11.5
peak torque should be between 5000 and 6000 rpms add about 3degrees timing back  in that area. turn up the boost a few psi at a time and check it out don't just try to tune for high boost right away.

From reading jd's posts the d doesn't like a ton of timing and he starts by pulling as much as 1.5/psi but that ends up being way to much up top, on my z6 tune at 13psi 1.3/psi and 11.8:1 workedwell on 13psi but that is pretty conservative

I think I'll do 1.35 up to 12psi then above that pull 1/psi and target 11.8 up to 12psi and 114 above that tapering slow not justo e column dump to 11.4 lol

generally you want to ramp up timing as rpm increase to hold the tq flat.


start with mild timing and add timing slowly until it stops making more power or until u hear it knock.

its pretty straight forward.

11.5-12:0 is a good place to aim for AFR

Good info here think I'll just street tune the afr's to where I want and use some Det cans to get timing down

This is gonna be a loooot of pulls haha 2psi increments a good way to get it dialed in? I want it to street drive down low well too not just be a strong wot/high rpm tune

Will be a lot of time hope the Motor holds

spent some time looking at other peoples maps and i think this should be a good base





this with dropping about 1 CR point it should be pretty good, may need more timing to make some power but nothing a set of det-cans and some street pulls in 2psi increments cant fix  :noel:

when I was watching dave tune my 8.0:1 comp LS, he added a bunch of timing and it didnt make any more power. It didnt make any less eather. So just because you can add more timing in, dosent mean its making more power. Were talking about 2-5* of timing.

Thats why I was saying go with .75 retard in the base just turn up the boost in steps and keep the map looking logical as you work up to your high boost level.  tune vac on the street Ive founf the dyno to be better for tuning fuel in boost it's to short to log very well street tuning. don't get me wrong ive tuned a few boost monsters on the highway but now that I have dyno access it's just easier and gets a way better result.

Only reason I was saying to little retard was because I've always found 1/psi or more to be a great starting point.

Pussies, I got a CX airborne above 130 with a cop chasing me.


93 should do 300whp in a shitty 1.6L, more with an efficient head & turbo setup. I can't imagine any turbos big enough make over 300whp at 13psi and still have a reasonable spool time on a D16.

The head is ported, pbt tb setup, 272 cam so it should be fairly efficient

The turbo is eBay but I've seen them go to 375wheel on here stock head

The turbo setup should be fairly efficient all 3", nice cold intake, everything is heat wrapped, turbo has a blanket on it, and the turbo housing was also ported along with the cast manifold

Thanks for the advice guys just waitin on some bolts I broke to get here then I'll fire it up

My LS is 8.0:1, delta 272/260, PBT intake/spacer/tb, and 3" exhaust, to4e 40trim, and we did 22 and then it settled to 20ish psi on pump 92oct, and we ran out of map sensor  :'( I wanted to keep cranking on that whore but leed said he didnt want to push it past the map sensor.....lol I need a bigger map and bigger turbo....
