"The Story of Everything" was my favorite of the three.  The other two repeat a lot of the same thing I've heard before, but it was nice to see it demonstrated with video and broken down into analogies even a caveman could probably grasp.  Fortunately, Hawking doesn't narrate it.

I know right.

I can't believe people change opinions as more information becomes available.

If you were told to describe a painting from a mile away, then next year describe it from a yard away, do you think both descriptions would be absolutely the same? A micro example is the world we see - it's always a snapshot of the past, albeit only a billionth of a fraction previous. Once the light hit's our eyes, those atoms have already "vibrated" away from that exact spot.

That's how this guy forms his ideas. We start the day listening to the latest gang-related shooting, he starts the day listening to someone describing how they figured out one particular sub-atomic particle acts differently when exposed to X amounts of gamma radiation at 1/2 earth gravity while 2* above absolute zero.

I can give him a break because I've never had an idea that I didn't stop adding to. Most of the time, when I get to the point of puting a plan in action, more parts of it have changed than remain original.

Really? your going to say he's wrong? Until he proves himself wrong you can sit back and take what he says for fact, as i sure as shit have no idea what he's talking about at all. and the chance you do is fucking slim to none.

Everyone takes a 2000+ year old book written by idiots in a desert as "100% fact."

I like HiProfile's example.

His ideas are theories.  He's not passing them off as truth, and says himself we are just beginning to find the "truth" and may never find the complete truth.  A lot of what he talks about isn't provable yet, and may never be, but they shouldn't be disregarded.  He IS a quantum physicist and there is a lot of factual information he bases his theories on.  People take these theories and expand on them, and so does he which is why his ideas change.

There's nothing wrong with being wrong when you're willing to accept and change your view as more information becomes available.  There IS something wrong with saying something is wrong without providing proof of why.  A good example is the whole "earth is flat" theory that existed for... centuries?  He should continue with his "incorrect" theories because they are more logical and factual than anyone here and most of the world could come up with, and they offer a foundation for others to continue theorizing from.  Figuring shit out is a process, and creating a theory based on the limited clues you have gives a direction of where to look for the next clue.

He admits the obvious, that we are only barely beginning to understand these things, and he restructures his theories when necessary.  If people take it as truth, that's their own problem, and I don't see how it makes him someone that should be disregarded?

I have to ask, what has he said that's been proven wrong?  By no means am I suggesting he's right about everything as it'd be pretty retarded to believe he was (I'm sure he'd say the same), but yeah...  I'd personally put the most trust in the theory by a quantum physicist that's been supported by peers around the world over anything anyone here or anyone else I know could come up with...

Hawking blatantly ignored the opinions of his peers for quite some time, then changed his mind, published a book, and got rich off the ideas/theories of others without acknowledgment of them or their thoughts. Thats called a thief in my book, sir.
