I will admit that I was unaware of the limitations of carbon dating, or forgot, but I certainly am not going to get my facts from a highly biased source with an agenda to push.  When time and curiosity allows, I will certainly learn more about the subject, and take in inforamtion from many different sources.

While I will admit that just about anything is possible, we sure don't fully understand the world around us, I find it hard to believee the fables contained within one text.

Eyewitness accounts with no peer review are certainly the best way to make accurate observations, obviously.  Maybe I am making ASSumptions when I say, "with no peer review."

It's funny because I had exactly the same discussion about god and religions today with a friend of mine at work.

He said the rules in the religions are what's keep people to no kill each other and that religions are needed.

I said that religions are for stupid people or people that can't live on their own.

He said that god exists, I said that it doesn't. He said that I had no proof it doesn't exist, I said he has no proof it exists.


The outcome was the same as the beginning. I continue to thing that religions are for stupid weak people and that god doesn't exists and he continue to think that religion is good and that god exists.

You're absolutely 100% correct.  We cannot prove 100% that god doesn't exist.  You, sir, need to read about Russell's teapot.  I could think up a million things that you cannot prove doesn't exist, but it won't make it any more likely to exist.

Why aren't you supporting any other gods?  There are plenty of gods that nobody can prove don't exist, yet you choose to believe one particular one without any more bit of proof than others have for their gods.  I'll tell you the answer -- indoctrination.  You may notice, that people tend to believe in the god that is most believed in their geographical location, or worshiped by their family and peers.

Haven't found the missing link?  There's actually an episode of Futurama (Season 6, Episode 9) mocking this whole situation, which of course doesn't classify as evidence, but it's a great illustration of how stupid that whole argument is.  No matter how many "links" are found, the creationists are never pleased.  Nobody seems to consider the ridiculous amount of "luck" required for a fossil to exist.  It's rather fortunate we've been able to dig up what we have.  Again, evidence supporting evolution (for more than just humans), yet absolutely none supporting god.

It has nothing to do with carbon dating the bones.  Still, there is evidence supporting radiometric dating, and absolutely no evidence supporting god created life 9000-12000 years ago.  None.  To bring back evolution, there are plenty of "links" and to believe that those creatures evolved so drastically and so rapidly seems kind of stupid.  To be blunt, I will put more clout in thousands/millions of scientists than I will in an angelfire-hosted and god-biased website.

Ignoring the fact that the idea we cannot synthetically create life is completely false (thanks Google).  Complex biological processes do not prove god exists any more than they prove OCZC exists.  Using something that we can't explain or recreate (although in the case of life, we can recreate and explain it) is never evidence of god.  Don't forget humans used to believe the earth was flat, the center of the universe, the sun was a god, etc -- and a lot of that shit was believed around the time the stupid bible was written.

A soul?  If a soul truly existed, neurological disorders would be nonexistent.  A soul is this magical "thing" that just exists in side of you and was gifted by god.  It shouldn't be effected by the physical realm, yet it is.  In reality, your brain is just an immensely complex chemical reaction that we haven't completely figured out, but there is a lot of progress being made.  Sorry, but you have no soul, you're "soul" is just the state of your brain and a product of your environment and experiences.

You're right, poor decisions and no education is god being an asshole.  He knows everything you will do, gave you your soul, created you with "a plan" (which completely fucking throws free will out the window), and yet he still put you in your miserable life, allowing you to make poor decisions, while he smiled down upon you.  Obviously god just likes some people more than others.

I've always loved how [anything good] is thanks to god and [anything bad] is either "god working in mysterious ways" or the devil.  God didn't give anyone any knowledge, the dude that build the manifold earned it all on his own.  If god is the giver of knowledge, he should give us the knowledge to cure the countless fucking diseases that he created (or was it the devil? god's special plan?) and are killing millions.

97Econobox, I've always had respect and thought you were a cool guy, so this thread saddens me.  I'm not trying to push my evil atheism on you, but I'd like you to open your mind a bit and dig a little deeper...  Read up on why atheists believe what they do, and if you still believe in god then if he exists he can't say you aren't faithful.  I of course live in one of the most religious backwater states in existence, so deal with christians all day, every day, and while they get treated with the same level of respect as anyone else -- I can't help but think of them as either very gullible or of a lower intellectual capacity.

I grew up in a christian family, had all christian friends, was very active in the church, blah blah blah.  However, as I grew older, it was getting harder and harder to deal with the constant CANNOT DIVIDE BY 0 illogical inconsistent bullshit that is in the bible and "keep faith."  The book was written at a time when humans were fucking STUPID, and it's hard to ignore how completely ridiculous the stories were.  A man swallowed by a whale/fish?  The world being flooded and some fuckhead gathering two of all of them (and I assume one of all the asexual life), providing their very picky habitats and diets?  The world being created in 7 days, before there was even a such thing as a day??  The story of creation isn't even consistent in the bible if you compare the different books.  If the bible was written today, the author(s) would be accused of blatant plagiarism: Religulous - The similarities between Horus and Jesus  I like how christians pick and choose what to follow in the bible.  Who the fuck decides what parts of "god's word" are right and which are wrong?  The bits about owning slaves, not jerking off, stoning wives, etc etc -- OK not to follow.  The parts about god existing, oh that's all true.  How do you know that hell isn't a nice place and the devil isn't a good guy after all?  Seems ridiculous to only hear one side of the story and make your judgment.  The only reason this religion has lasted so long is because its claims were vague enough that it can't be disproven (yet).  Others were even more ridiculous and science has been able to prove the bullshit.  I love the people that say you should believe in god because WHAT IF YOU'RE WRONG?!?!1/11/1/1////  There are hundreds of gods, and I'm not going to waste my time worshipping all of them because they could possibly exist.

If you want to believe in a COMPLETE DOUCHEBAG, then go right ahead.  A guy that created Adam and Eve, knowing that they would introduce sin (he is all-knowing!), purposefully sending his son down here knowing we would kill him, which in turn condemned all future generations to hell (I assume you support paying reparations to ancestors of slaves), then revived him anyway.  A guy that created all life, including the parasites and diseases killing us every day.  A guy that was keen on performing miracles back when the bible was written, but today decides it's not worth the effort.  A guy that gives us all free will (which can't truly exist if he has a plan for all of us) to form our own opinions, then is happy with condemning people to hell for eternity for using LOGIC to believe something that actually has EVIDENCE to support it.  If god wants us to believe he exists, why doesn't he just exist?  A god that will send a mass-murderer to heaven if he just has faith, yet will condemn an entirely moral productive person to an eternity in hell for not believing.  A guy that will condemn billions to hell simply for believing in a different god that has an equal amount of supporting evidence (aka none).  He really sounds like a stand-up kind of guy!
