My Rant / I hate the IRS and School
« on: April 15, 2009, 04:51:50 PM »

I am a full time college student, trying to pay cash for school as I go through it. I have a house, pay my own bills, and did this on a whopping income of around 8000 dollars last year. :?:

Here is where the rant starts. I paid cash for my school while busting my ass in classes and barely got by as far as money goes. I cant get any Fasfa help because my parents "made too much money last year".(Even though the only money I got from my parents last year was 400 dollars so I could pay off last semester and begin this one) They told me my parents income is considered until I turned 24 even if they don't give me a red cent.

The only tuition help I got was from my mom being a teacher so I received a 25% discount on rates. But wait, I really did not even get that because I turned 24 in june and that made me too old to receive that discount.

Then I hear about the Earned Income Credit for taxes when I went to try to go file. From what I understood this meant that if you made under 13 thousand last year then you have to pay no taxes and actually receive a refund. I was thinking to myself "great I finally am going to catch a break."

WRONG, You have to be 25 to 65 in order to receive that credit. So now instead of actually getting money back I OWE the fucking KGB (i mean IRS) 867 dollars. I know 867 is not a lot of money, but when your on my budget it is a ton.

I guess my point is why in the fuck can people do nothing and live off these programs and not be financially responsible or liable for anything. Especially when I am trying to better myself and do everything I can to keep off these programs. I feel like I am being "punished" because I dont drain everything I can from the Government. Do these fucking retards not understand that I am trying to raise my tax bracket so they can get more money from me in the future? I just am really down and tired of worrying about money constantly.

Maybe I need to start living irresponsibly, have several children, and get on welfare. Then, and only then, I can get a little assistance

Cliffs for the lazy are as follows:

1. Cant get government help for school
2. Cant get government help for taxes
3. The only help I was getting has been taken away
4. So why in the am I sending these assholes money?

Sorry rant over

I went through the same shit.  I love how they tell you you're still dependant on your parents when you have your own place, work 45+ hours aweek and pay all your own shit.

The problem isn't that the government *should* do anything for you, the problem is that the government is in bed with your college, the college jacks the fucken tuition through the roof, and in most cases, taxpayers pay the inflated cost of making you dumb.

You just happened to get fucked by the inflated cost and not getting tax payer funds.

I dont think I am entitled to anything. It is just frustrating to see all these people at my school that only show up for 2 weeks to get their finical aid signed, get their money, and then you never see them again. The money they are getting could be helping me or someone else that genuinely needs the funds.

One instance was this guy in one of my classes bragging about how he gets paid an extra 2000 a semester for living
expenses and as you can imagine he stopped coming to class about 3 weeks in. At least he pretended for one extra week. ::)

I agree about the inflated fees and the tax payers having to foot the bill.

I am just having a hard time getting by and I do not see any light at the end of the tunnel. Not to mention I am driving an hour and fifteen minutes each way to class because there is no college close that offers the curriculum that I need close by. (Thank god for civic gas mileage)

I am going to file fafsa tonight with my shitty 8000 dollar income and hopefully I can get some money there.

I was sitting in a professors office the other day and he said that all this would pay off one day, I told him it had better, and if it doesn't, he will be the one of the first to find out.  :noel:

Adam, it's a fucked up system of college being supported by taxpayers, and you just fell through the "get fucked" part of the system.

It's ok to recognize the bullshit of people cashing in who don't even intend on going to school, and it's ok to play the game to get yours in the fucked up system. The problem I have is when the beneficiaries of the tax dollars and the fucked up system feel it's owed to them.

If your school wasn't in bed with the government, chances are you'd be able to pay the $2 a month that your school is worth. That's why I never put any value on college.

I only had 1099's. I cant have a "real job" and go to school, no one wants to work around my hours. I don't blame them because I am always taking 18+ hours a semester. I get my money from side jobs and HVAC.
