BOV not going pew pew.. Why?
« on: April 06, 2012, 12:31:24 PM »

So my cdm Bov I dont believe is opening at all. I am using a open port in the back of the skunk 2 manifold dedicated just for it. Am I suppose to put a check valve in there or something? I have not boost leak tested the system yet to see for leaks though.

Thanks for the input

Oh yeah for sure I am still a rookie. Although I did a build already it was about 5+ years ago and I am pretty rusty.

I have it apart currently for some upgrades so I cannot check it right now. I will in a about a week when I am finished with it though.
I was about to update the build thread and it tells me its over 120 days old and I should consider making a new thread  :?:

Well, how many ports does your bov have? Also which port to you have your vacuum line hooked to? Does it have a adjustable bolt on the top to set spring pressure?

Build thread updated with some info.. boring now but it should get good soon.

The bov only has one port to connect to. I directly connected it to a port that was previously blocked off on the intake manifold (meaning there is nothing teed into it).

It has an adjustable bolt on the top and at first I tightened it slightly, then just by hand with nothing changing. I never tightened it down all the way because it was already stiffer than shit when I pushed on the bov to open it by hand.

Back the bolt all the way out and give it 1/2 turn back in and then set it. It should make some noise or queef or something. Now this is when the engine has a load on it. If your parked just free reving it probably want make boost because there is no load. You must be driving to her the bov fart.

Usually the springs in the CDM valves are weak as shit, recently had to put a stack of quarters inside one on the dyno to get it to go past 12psi without blowing open.

Tee off any other car's vacuum lines to the BOV, then rev the engine a few times to see if it opens. It should at least try to move when you let off the throttle suddenly.

Torn diaphragm is a possibility if you haven't checked it yet.

The greedy knock offs usually have 2 springs. Open it up and take out the weaker one. The screw in the top does nothing.

I didn't know that. I have the real thing. So I'm just going off what I have.

On the knock off the only thing that screw does is fill the hole. If you screw it all the way in it will limit how much it opens. That's about it.

Every CDM BOV Ive had never opens. Springs are WAY too stiff. So I always put a softer shorter spring in, and never have an issue again.

They are always different for me. My last rs knock off needed the stiffer of the 2 springs. The weaker spring let it open at 4psi

I have yet to see an RS or type S knockoff that preloaded the spring. I have had my hands on hundreds. Literally.
