I need to make some things clear. I DID NOT "build" Levi's car. I built the engine, and turbo system, thats it, thats all. I did not install the engine, or any other parts on the car, the majority of the engine and chassis parts were not my decision. Levi is a friend of mine and I am just helping him out.

You guys can make fun of his IC, we went over this in another thread but his cooling system issues are wound around his complete lack of a fan shroud for his radiator, as soon as he puts a shroud on his rad the cooling issues will go away.

I never wanted Levi's car to leave without a cage, luckily he is bringing the car down here in a few weeks so I can put one in for him.

My point is and continues to be that dime a dozen turbo B-series Civics with normal sized ICs and no shrouding have no problem with either IATs or with overheating.  You can spend more money on such a large core and you can spend more money on fabricating shrouding; at the end of the day you've spent more money and nothing else. 

I've been through some 650-800 whp drag Civics that struggle to get up to temperature between passes.  That better be some voodoo shrouding because heat has a direct effect on engine life at those power levels.

The problem with that still remains that this engine ONLY has an overheating issue when not moving, when the car moves it has no problem staying cool. Hence the ic not being the root issue. All he needs is a basic shroud so that when the car is not moving there is still some air passing across the core. I'm not saying there couldn't be other cooling system issues, and as stated I am not very familiar with these specific engines. But to say the ic is the cause of his overheating issues is silly.

I'm not sure what Levi has told you guys but Dave didn't build this car. He built the turbo setup for a charger that Levi supplied, and assembled a motor that Laskey fucked up on. Levi is the one that decided not to cage it. The engine was installed and wired by Levi. The only thing that can be held against Dave is the gigantic endtanks that seem to work but wouldn't have been my choice had it been my car.

Necessary for what? To quickly sum the purpose of 4 valve heads, tubular manifolds and electronic fuel injection is simple, its all about efficiency. You absolutely can use an old push rod heap of shit with you Holley 4 barrel to "make power" but your turbo Honda is capable of making as much or more power with less displacement, because it is a more efficient system. The aftercooler I built for Levi is more efficient than a heat exchanger with some box tube welded on the ends and a hole saw cut inlet.

I've tested it, I did a bunch of turbo system development work for a couple teams running the baja 1000 and pikes peak, aftercooler design was apart of the program. I spent a lot of time on the dyno and than data logging this kind of stuff.

You completely missed the point, I recognize the ability to make power with old technology, but my point was that it is not as efficient. Like most things in life, there are many ways to go about accomplishing things, to get a final result, and some happen to be more efficient than others.

I find this mildly amusing as Dave is not a honda guy. I don't think other the drunken welding Tmathis's fuel rail (so really it was just welding, and he never touched the car), and helping Levi with his car, Dave has ever worked on another honda. In fact he makes his living selling performance parts to a crowd that look at small blocks "old technology" like amazing motors of the future.
