need a plinker, gun people
« on: June 01, 2012, 09:06:22 AM »

Picking up a 22 for the wife
Looking at a marlin xt-22 but really don't know shit about guns besides how to use them.

do not want a semi-auto, not sure about a lever, loved my bolt action when I was little.
prefer made in usa
She would probably prefer a wood stock over synthetic for looks, but that's less of a priority

Let me know which ones are good and what's junk

Thanks

i know you specified not semi-auto and wood stock, buuuuutt... i bought a S&W M&P15-22 about 2 years ago, and have fired about 5-6000 rounds through it, i absolutely love that gun. its light, accurate and so much fun to shoot. my only complaint is that it is a little picky with ammo...

something to think about...

Truth, my dad has had one for like 10 years, that thing is a tank, pretty much like anything Ruger....

the m&p15 is bad ass
I'm not spending that much (coming straight out of my car fund) and its not a fit for what I need right now.
I will certainly be keeping it in mind for the future.

The 10/22 is tempting, but I really wanted to get a single shot.

wood stock isn't a deal breaker, just think she'd like the look better.

my marlin 22 bolt action is the best 22 i've ever had very accurate for a 22. i've probably slayed 5k birds with it from ages 9-14

New marlin lever actions are a bit disappointing. Old ones are my favorite. The Henry lever actions are great, my brother and cousins have a few of these. Rock solid actions, very good build quality, and cheap.

10/22's, haven't shot any new ones but all the 10+ year old ones are great, good build quality, not too picky about ammo (for a semi auto) and hands down the most aftermarket parts available if you want to fuck with shit.

You'll grow tired of loading the lever action unless it is tube feed like the Marlin Model 60.

Tube feed bolt action is another thought.

Mosin Nagant M44. Wood stock, bolt action. Ammo is decently cheap. Not exactly plinking, but still a ton of fun.

I think all cop cars need to have turbo. nbspnbsp Then they would understand the necessity of putting your foot down and how uncontrollable the urge is to fucking rail on that shit.
