Well it went great. Numbers are lower than I had hoped for, I wanted to break the majical 300, but the tq is fucking crazy in this car.

I wonder why your numbers are uncorrected though. I think most everyone elses numbers were SAE corrected, you definitely would have broken the 300whp mark with corrections. But uncorrected is "the real" hp.

So on about pull 17 or so when dave looked at me and said, "you know how to run this right?" and haded me the controler for the dyno. I said "sure do" He then looked at me and said "I GOT TO HEAR WHAT THIS THING SOUNDS LIKE!" lol

This thing is flat out nasty on the street! Ask ryan....lol

Im gona rock this setup for at least the rest of the racing season. I might then in the fall/winter change out to a true 50trim, (I already have the compressor cover and backing plate just need a good wheel) Or go with a hx/hy35 setup and a 4bar.

You won't need to run a 4 bar with the bigger turbo, you will do 300hp @ 12lbs   :noel:

I have a feeling that something is holding this motor back. But I dont know what. I know the turbo isnt huge, but its big enughf, to make 400@ the crank. So 350+ at the wheels. Im thinking that the turbo is choking out. I should have pulle my Air filter off and see if it made any differance. You guys have any ideas? I know that cam gears would just move the power band around or make a couple more hosze powerz, but fuck me.

Judging by how TQ falls off so quick, a restriction... I don't know what ya had for ex... BUt i DOnt think a bigger hotside would have hurt, at all judging by the graph... I don't know the idiosyncrasies of a LS though...

What size hot sides on that thing.

.70ar full 3" exhaust. The other thing might be the stock pre 92head. I know Beavis Davis said something about the pre 92 heads had small ports or something along those lines.

Doput had some semi chamberd POS that we took off and put a mgnaflow on and he gained 50 WHP INSTANTly, just by TQ being able to carry out...

90-91 heads have a smaller ports from what i remember believe the auto heads are the worst I will see about gettin you another head I usually get them all the time

Ill go dig out the parts ls heads on the side but J davis is right the old school b18a1 heads did have smaller ports. I also have an obd2 ls head laying around Ill bust out the calipers after it stops raining outside since I throw junk ls heads in the weeds LOL. most likely the reasoning why they are rated at 130 vs 140-142 hp of the newer ls motors.


I say fuck it the car runs great hit the track and enjoy having to get a cage in it.

Dyno's are what they are. Im going to guess this car smashes easily into the mid 11's. The car has use able power unlike alot of overpowered cars that make globs of power in the wrong place.

THanks guys, Im pretty sure this thing is gona be a track monster. I know that dynos are just that. A tuning tool. I just want to make sure I am taking advantage of every bit of power I can. Trap speeds will tell me what I want to know though. Thanks for all your guys help, and all the support to keep me motivated to get it done.  I cant wate to track this car.


Now the next things to do on this car are new balljoints, wheel bearings, and extended studs so I can run my slicks.

That's assuming traction.  290 wtq is the sort of shit that rips tires free, the car's got to freight train on the road.


I don't know, the LS cam thing is so weird.  For stock or mild regrinds, I think I'd try and see if cam gear adjustments did something - I know it's useless on B-VTEC, but honestly I've never tried on LS and with how quirky the cam situation is I'd be inclined to try it.

Also, when power goes flat as a strap like that I'm used to seeing the turbo maxed out or exhaust side choked out.

I just googled the turbo number and I came up with what I think are the exducer on the cold side is 74.90mm, and the inducer was 45mm.  :-\

Im pretty sure that mine inducer isnt that small, but I will have to check. But at any rate, its fun :D

To4e 40trim with a .70ar hotside and a .50ar cold.

Straight T04e or t3/t04e?  eBay or some actual legit brand?

Either way, if you believe in compressor maps, you should be able to make 350-375whp with a 40 trim t04e compressor wheel.  If you want to find out if it is compressor limited, crank the boost to 30psi.  If the boost falls to 20-22psi by redline, you're compressor limited.

I can't see it being turbine limited based on how laggy it is.  I have to assume the turbine wheel is larger than at Stage I T3 wheel, so already I know that the turbine wheel is probably not the issue.  On top of that, .70 is a pretty big turbine housing.

My guess is, with 2-3 more psi, you'd see 320-330whp and that's it.  It's probably held back by the .50ar cold side enough where it can't hit 350-375whp.  All in all, it's just a T4 turbo on a 1.8L engine.  The results should be expected to some degree.
