Yea I probably should have done a little more research before I decided to go the route I did but oh well, I'll definitely keep your idea in mind for when my brother goes turbo with his ef hatch

Hah thanks man and the turbo is a Garrett TA34, compressor .60 a/r and turbine .63 a/r

Picked up this thing

Here's roughly where the intercooler will need to sit to give the manifold enough clearance, I'm going to wrap the bottom half on the manifold to help a little bit

Middle

Side

Manifold mostly done, still needs wastegate flange welded on and I need to clean up the inside

Went over the welds to make it look pretty

Tried getting the snapped off bolts out but the screw extractor snapped off in the process, so tried welding a v band on there. The weld split down the middle as we thought it would so I need to get a propane torch to heat it up and then we'll try that again

Parts coming in the mail:
-innovative traction bar
-v band conversion for the wastegate
-heat wrap and metal cable ties
-2 stainless 2.5" 90 degree pipes for the downpipe

That's all for now

truth.... but i obviously only use one per pipe. just wrap it tight at the start, then at the end toss a clamp on.  :Jew:

Guess I need to start thinking more rhmt hah anyways looks like I'm going with ratcityrex's idea of the vw radiator because too much modification would be needed for my half rad. I'm pretty much going to make a little cage/skid plate to support and protect the intercooler because it's going to be out in front and sitting just as low as the traction bar. Here's the goods

Downpipe

Collector before

Collector after, might clean it up a little more

Traction bar

Getting a rough idea of what I need to cut for the intercooler. The crossmember will have the middle section cut out and the styrofoam will need some trimming

Guy on ebay sent me the wrong size flange so hopefully I get the right one for free

Might make a second one like this  O0

Would it be better to use an intercooler like ratcityrex did or use the stock evo9 intercooler? I'm aiming for around 300hp, guess I could always make adjustments if I need a bigger intercooler down the road. I already have the evo intercooler but just looking for input since a ton of stuff will need cut for the evo intercooler to fit

Rock the evo ic. It will have better airflow and not try and get as warm as mine did. Mine would like to push 200° while driving down the hwy. Mine blocked more air than let through.

Thanks for the heads up, looks like I'll be going with the evo intercooler

DO WORK!

I'll put up the pictures when I have time but I started working on the wastegate placement. I also got a piece of bar that should work well for mounting the intercooler; it'll be welded to the traction bar and then stick out towards the front.

You'd want the "teardrop" or radius of that WG tube to bend the other way, but ideally you'd have the WG on the front or back side of that collector to intersect both tubes. If it stays fully divided and you only intersect one of the up-pipes for the WG, you will end up with high backpressure on 2 of the cylinders and low backpressure on the other 2. On diesels it doesn't matter nearly as much.

You could also use 2 small tubes going straight up from the bottom horizontal tubes into a mini collector that is topped off with the WG. That would keep it fully divided.

Thanks for the heads up. I had a feeling that would be an issue so I posted in the fabrication sub forum a little while back and someone told me it'd be fine  ??? Oh well. I'll look at it tomorrow and see which option would be better and report back with the results

Due to life this project went on the back burner but now I don't work weekends so I actually have some free time to work on this  ;DDD I think it looks good considering it's made out of two eBay headers

The vw rad isn't going to fit (I'm not mutilating my bumper, already cut the support in half as you can see) so I guess I'm going to rock the ebay rad, make a shroud and hope for the best

It'll fit if my intercooler (stock evo9) was an inch thinner but other than that I would have to cut the 'grille' which isn't an option

It must be because your turbo manifold sticks out further than mine did. My vw rad tucked up perfect to the back of the hood latch support. How thick is a evo 9 ic? My ic was 2.75" thick.

Not sure, I'll get some measurements this weekend if I remember. Yea this manifold setup is less than ideal, I kinda regret going down this route with the sinktrap style but I guess that's the whole point of rhmt so we'll see how it does. I'm interested to see if I have any issues with the recirculated wastegate since I've heard mixed things on that
