Looking for cheap scan tool, Launch vs. Autel ?
« on: December 28, 2014, 03:40:33 PM »

I'm on the hunt for a cheap scan tool to use for myself and friends. Cheap is key, looking for under $75. I've found the following two, reviews seems to be good on Amazon for both. Looking for any input since your all cheap as well. The Autel has a Enhanced Mode 6 function, not too sure I know anything about it. I found the cheapest price for both at Auto in Box, both are ching chong meow.

Feel free to suggest another cheap one.

Step dad has one he got off ebay for $20. Reads real time data as well as codes. Just have to use a laptop.

I saw those on Amazon and Ebay, the ones I saw are wireless and plug into the OBD port and use bluetooth or wifi to communicate with your phone or laptop. Most are geared for Android devices or PC, I'm a Apple person. I think for ease of everything I'm going to get a old fashion handheld scanner.

You said it. You are an Apple guy. Just buy the most expensive and shiny thing that does the same thing as the 15$ device.  :Jew:

Not saying Apple is better then android but that's the two way I got. Anyone use a app for either phone to view codes and data with one of the cheap obd wifi devices?

I use the 15$ device with Android. Works perfectly. The app is called Torque, or something like that.

Found it:

I was going to buy a Samsung s5 but my kids both have iPod touches and text me. The 6s makes that easy, it was on sale on Boxing Day for 79.99 so fuck it. Works good

Dash command is a apple software, by the reviews it seems it's about the same as torque. I might give it a try seeing how cheap it is.

I've had pretty good luck with this bluetooth adapter and the torque app on android.

$24 and under $5 for the app.

The Autel came in today, I'll play with it this weekend and do a short review for any further cheap asses. So far the little I played with it I'm happy. I really want to try the "mode 6" and live data feature to look at fuel trims.
