As far as why'd I pick a sportbike or why did I pick this particular one?

Sportbike because I'm not far from Barber, Road Atlanta, or the mountains and while I'm still young enough to lean over a tank, I prefer adrenaline over comfort.  I have a few cruisers on my mind for the next purchase.

CBR because, from what I gather, the CBR is the best "all-around" and R6 is the best for track duty.  The other two jap bikes are meh.  I wanted a 600 so that I still have a 1000 to look forward to.  I'll be on the street more than on the track, so went with a CBR over the R6.  If I was buying a 1000cc it'd likely be the R1M.

Honestly, the fact that everything else I own is Honda played a huge part in my decision, but it being the best "all-around" is what finalized my decision.  I wish Honda would catch up with the technology.  Yamaha leads the pack on the Jap bikes in that regard, at least with the new R1.  ABS was something I can appreciate, though.

I know a lot of people whine about tech making vehicles easier.  I can appreciate a "simple" car, which is part of why I love the CRX and S2000 (compared to other cars in its generation), but a lot of this stuff doesn't do shit until you need it to and can be easily disabled if I want to learn the limits in a controlled environment.  When a dipshit decides to pull out in front of me, I appreciate not having to focus on throttling the brakes for optimal braking performance.  I'm not a complete badass, and do occasionally panic, and am a geek.  I like technology.

I read something today about the traction-control system Ducati is working on in which you can safely do hard-braking in a turn on a wet road, of course with the usual limitations where physics win.  Sounds cool.  Too bad I'll never pay a high price for a relatively unreliable bike.

I bought a shitton of mods, of course primarily bolt-ons since very little else seems to exist for these bikes.  Didn't do anything but remove the labels (Honda, different adhesive please?) and a tank pad.  Bike came with a Yoshi exhaust, tail delete, bar ends, tinted windscreen, and flush mount turn signals installed.  Got them to throw in all the factory parts with it since they increased the price due to mods.

I did manage to fuck it up the first weekend I had it.  I have FULL gear including Sidi boots, but I'm a lazy motherfucker.  Wore my ratty-ass sneakers, and while walking away from the gas pump the laces on my right shoe got caught on the peg, preventing me from putting my foot down, causing me to instinctively step harder, causing the bike to fall over from a near stop.  Lame.  Scratched up a couple fairings and broke the brake lever.  Making the rest of the 3 hour trip home with a nub for a brake lever caught me off-guard a few times...  I had frame protectors and the levers that flip up instead of breaking at home :P

Put nearly 1000 miles on it on vacation.  Too lazy to do first bit of maintenance.  Oops.  Next time.  It's a blast to ride, and now the S2000 bores me even more.

I did get some shelves set up in the garage so I could use it for god's intended purpose, which is putting all my toys in it.  Need more garage space already.

I don't have the self control to own a bike. I would just end up another statistic.

That being said I love riding. Grew up riding in the dirt. But most the time it was trails and low speed stuff. As soon as I had a open area the fucking bike was pegged!!! Did a little riding on the street in my early 20s. Had a friend that had a mid 90s (don't know what it was) air cooled street bike. Was a whole heap of fun. Was so light it it felt incredibly fast but by all means it wasnt. Still fast enough to get me killed. Had a couple of close calls and that was enough for me to walk away.

But I will say,I do miss it.

I don't know how tall the ceiling in your garage is but I hung 4x8 sheets of 3/4 plywood from mine to store house shit on and the rest of the garage is for garage things. But I also have 12' ceilings in my garage.

That's more self-control than I have. I thought I'd be able to be responsible on it, but quickly found out otherwise. I'm not as retarded as some on these, but I could ride a lot safer.

The garage is probably high enough but the walls are lined with enough shelving and at some point will put some plywood down in the attic for storage.

This is me, I had a slow one for a summer and said I would be careful and responsible.
It didn't take long for me to get bored and start doing all kinds of dumb shit.
luckily it was borrowed and I was loosing my license so I had a couple years for the urge to die down before I could legally drive one again.

I have no problem keeping up with almost everyone in the twisties after a set of tires, though And because I'm an intellectual being,  this one guy on a hypermotard sp and his buddy on a 636.

I try to do responsible reckless riding. Doesn't always work but I avoid as much stupidity as I can while I'm being stupid.

I'll say I'm glad I started on a 250 and when I was in my late twenties instead of buying one when I was even dumber.  Don't think I'd ever trust myself with an H2...

I'm pretty responsible with my recklessness too. I pretty much ride in full gear And because I'm an intellectual being,  legs but i do use leg armor.

Ive been scouring CL and Ebay for a 600 I can turn into a track bike.

I'd like a track bike since I'm close to Barber, Talladega, and Atlanta.

One of the guys at the dealership told me my bike has two brake calipers on the front because he "believes it helps the bike stop faster," but he's "not sure and hasn't ever rode one" but that's what he heard. Is that true???!?!!

IDK how hard you pushed your 250, but those single rotors up front like to fade pretty quickly. With the added weight of a 600 and the extra speed you need to shave off before a corner a single front would be deep into a fade a lap or two in.  I see noticeable fade on my 300 when I'm trying to keep up with the quicker guys in our group but when I notice it start to fade, I back off and take it easy.  I'm sure you're just using the sarcasms though as implied by the question marks and exclamation points. Most dealerships don't know anything about sport bikes around here. I don't think most people who buy them do either.  We always have guys show up to our rides in tshirt/jeans/no gear/tire shine/extended swing arms who leave when they see us all geared up because they thought we were going to go hard park in front of bars or do dumbass highway pulls.

I need to buy sintered pads and better rotors. Ive upgraded the steering head bearings to tapered units but the next upgrades are stainless lines, sintered pads, 636 rear shock, new front tire and heavier fork oil in the front forks.

Yup, sarcasm. Surprised someone could be unsure if two rotors are better than one. The 250 brakes are definitely more prone to fade.  I like to ride the 250 because of how narrow and light it is, but at the same time I have way more confidence in the 600 at higher speeds and in turns... Sorta similar to the s2k vs crx.  The only "performance" mods I've purchased are smaller sprocket and tuning stuff. I'll get better ties when the factory ones are worn.
