What is so difficult about a custom clutch line...
« on: June 09, 2009, 05:02:50 PM »

So I've been trying to get a clutch line made to use with the Sonem cable/hydraulic conversion that mounts the master cylinder on the pedal assembly.  I found one place that said they would do it, however:

I told them I need a clutch line that's 70" long...nothing special:

Quote from: them
In that case we can ask our supplier to order one with 70" and the price should be about $39 plus $13 shipping.

Please let us know.

Quote from: me
That will work, thanks!

Quote from: them
Hi

Invoice is sent, we will send you the Honda line but with 70" in length.

Thanks.

So I pay them.

Quote from: them
Joshua,

I have looked up the configuration for the clutch line, the Master cylinder and the slave cylinder require male fitting to thread in, and a normal clutch line for Honda Civic has female fitting on each end, if we just send you a clutch line for a Civic with 70" in length that will be a line with 2 female fittings and will not go into the slave or master cylinder. Please advise.

Thanks.

Quote from: me
Do you sell integra lines?  I will be using a transmission and master cylinder from an integra.  I just need a longer one.

Quote from: them
Joshua,

Please call us at 1-888-xxx-xxxx and look for xxx, I will explain to you.

Thanks.

Can anyone explain to me what is difficult about this?  What fittings does an Integra clutch line use so possibly I can explain it to them?  I'm glad they're making sure I'm getting exactly what I'm looking for, but at the same time I don't understand what's difficult about making a clutch line (which they sell), that's longer than the typical one.

yeah that does sound kinda complicated just for a clutch line. you would think if they sell the line already then it cant be too hard for them to put a damn male fitting on the end

I just don't understand what's difficult.  Maybe I gave them the wrong information, but they sell braided OEM replacement lines on ebay for Honda/Acura, and I thought it'd be as easy as making the same thing...but longer.

I guess I'll find out when I call them.

Does anyone know off-hand what fittings are on an Integra (or any B-series I suppose) clutch line?

Both sides are M10x1.0. For a stainless line you'll need an M10x1.0 to (insert line size) male to male fitting.

I don't have an old one.

This is a cable/hydraulic conversion.

Do they not make female fittings that can be used with stainless lines?

They make stainless lines that can be used with any fittings.  You just need to specify what you want and know where to get it.

You can adapt the female hose end to a female thread size, but not sure how easy it would be to find a metric female fitting to do it.

How does your master or slave cylinder have a male fitting come out of it to begin with? Sounds like ebay-boy isn't comfortable outside of regular sales.

+1

I prefer bending my own stainless hardline for oil feeds, I see no reason why you can't do the same for a clutch line.  And because I'm an intellectual being,  the one required flex hose.

The trick with hoses and fittings and the like is to know what you need prior to going to a hose shop, and be aware that there are certain things that have 5 different names, and every hose guy refers to them primary by one of those 5, so don't get confused.

Like everyone else is saying, go to any hose shop and tell them what fittings you need and they can make it for you in minutes and it will cost you next to nothing.

the stock replacement braided lines only replace the small section that goes from the fram rail to the hardline that bolts to the trans and both ends are female. honda-tech is good for one thing, and thats finding out what parts you need to do something like this and who sells them

http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2334574

if youre to retarded to figure out what you need from that thread, heres exactly what you need to do this

2 10mm x 1.0 inverted flare to -3an fittings
xx" of stainless line with -3an fittings on each end

Corey, your response is the reason people are confused about this shit.

The replacement is the majority of the line, and therefore not "small".
 WTF is a Fram rail?
A hardline isn't what's bolted to the trans. It's a flexible line. The rest is hard.

listen steve you fucking cracker jack theres a hard line that goes fromt he stock slave ont he trans, to a bracket on the trans, from that connects a 8" long rubber line that then cnnects back to a hardline on the "fram" rail. its real simple really and youd have to be either retarded or never seen a hydro trans car in your life to not have a fuckin clue whats going on with that line.

heres a picture if you still cant comprehend.

thats exactly what hes trying to do, only hes confusing the seller about what kind of line he needs. the guy thinks hes wants a 70" line with the same ends that the stock soft line has on it.

Haven't owned a hydro trans vehicle in 4 years, and even then I never had to bother with the thing.

I asked for a refund, and I will do my own hard line.

I spent last night fapping to AN and Aeroquip specialty fastener suppliers.  The brass/steel shit is pennies, the hose is somewhat cheaper, the Aeroquip stuff is variable but definitely a lot cheaper than you'd think for *some* of it.  I'm pretty much sold on fabbing my own steel catchcan as a -10 AN weld on bung is under $2.  Good shit.

I think the guy was confused with the female part. You need a 70" line with male fittings as the slave and master both have female ends like stealth said.

the weld on fittings arent whats expenive its the swivel fittings. you could build one in aluminum for only a few bucks more.

Yeah that looks nice but ideally you want as much hardline as possible.  Braided line will still swell slightly

Or you can go to Carquest or a hydraulic shop and buy a long ass aluminum hard line for like $5.

Niggers.  Carquest part number BL 4360 60" 3/16" line with m10x1.0 ends.  $11.97.

Btw I just got the flat stock needed for me to make my own Sonem style conversion.  Fuck yes...

You should make 2 and make it worthwhile.

Want one?

Of course I do, make sure you copy it well they made some improvement to prevent flex.  I'm going to look for somewhere to beef up the pedal assembly while it's out since I've heard of them twisting...

How soon do you think you'll have some made?
