BRE & now ECU Flash Fail
« on: June 15, 2009, 06:38:59 PM »

ok i have had BRE on multiple computers in the past but i restarted my laptop about 6 months ago and cant get it to work now but works on my desktop that i restarted a month earlier?

when i open BRE i get this error message
""bre.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience. if you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.""

running windows xp service pack 3 all my other software works crome/hondata/dsm link/turbo edit, tried this on pgmfi but i never get any responses there.

Thank you.

It's a work machine.  You set a system restore point, correct?

solely for tuning not an actual work laptop. i wiped it out completely,  i hope!

if you weren't trying to reflash a euro 04 sti, you wouldn't get that error
works in rom raider just fine this was a base map i had sitting around so was seeing if it messed up on all maps and it did. wasnt actualy flashing a ecu.

I'd reformat, reinstall everything the way I like it, and set up system restore.

Find out what Ben Ogle programmed BRE in and download the runtime libraries.

I assume you have the .net framework stuff installed. It needs it to run BRE.

Do so, he's a bright dude and has worked hard at BRE.  I'm sure he can be of assistance.

I'd start by looking at BRE in the pgmfi.org forums, sir.  He'll have some contact info thrown up.

Ok i havent herd from Ben yet but i did get BRE to open on my laptop now but im still having issues. my framework was 2.2 or something like that updated now to 3.5. now when i open it BRE says "Compiler Error , Version 2.0 is not a compatible version"???? (im running 2.2.4). then it says "BRE, Error while opening". then after that message it opens and will load my bin's and everything. Now im bench testing it with my ostrich but no matter what i click on or off it wont detect an emulator. my crome and tuner pro detect it. any input?

O and i gave up on pgmfi a long time ago this same thread was started the same day i put it on here and there is only 1 reply over there. none of there threads get answered in my opinion and thats not just my post thats other users also.

I don't think it's your problem, but FTDI drivers can be wierd.  Get on FTDI's site and run their FTDIClean utility, then reinstall your Moates drivers and try again.

i did FTDI clean again and reinstalled the drivers and Negative still doesnt work for BRE? crome still detects and sends the rom also tuner pro also detects the ostrich. still no word from Ben.

It's got to be some sort of software conflict, and not an interface problem.  I don't know what Ben programmed BRE in, if you can dredge that from pgmfi.org or BRE's site you can find the most up to date libraries for that language and install them at which point it should work.

Just like eCtune is scripted in .NET so you have to download the .NET framework (libraries) for it to run, there are software libraries for various flavors of VB, C, C+, C++, Java, etc.  What is likely is that you have an older version of these libraries that causes a glitch, or you have an up to date version that has become corrupted.

Okay, I just reread this thread since I obviously lost track of what's going on.  BRE is on .NET, and you've already done that.  I suspect your runtimes are corrupt.

Go to add/remove programs and remove the .NET framework, as well as BRE.  Reboot.  Download and install .NET 3.5.  Reboot.  Download and install BRE.  Pray for success.
