My Ostrich Hates Crome
« on: July 16, 2009, 09:05:10 PM »

ok for some reason i cant tune crome with my ostrich? this is some weird issue i have just been having. all i can say is my ostrich is good. keeps running in Limp Mode

Moates Ostrich V.1 with Firmware update
 - Have tried 3 different 28pin ribbon cables
 - Checksum Removed
 - Load Tuner Pro RT ostrich is detected (will be donating to such a great program)

Crome Free
 - Latest Version just re downloaded
 - Successfully connects to ecu
 - Put, Verify works

Moates Burn 1
 - Burn map and put in Ecu No check engine lights nothing runs fine?

Baud - 920,000 (i have the updated firmware)
Data Bits - 8
Parity - none
Stop bits - 1

Time Out - 250
Max Tries - 250

Now i have my ostrich set to Port 4 but when i "Detect Connection" it will say Connection Successful then after hitting ok it will change to Port 1, it will still send and verify. I then changed port to 1 and still says 1 and will put or verify no problem.

Have you tuned with your ostrich and crome b4? I know the few times I tuned a setup on turbo edit, everytime you changed something on the map you had to click a tab on te to send the map to the ostrich. Well when I went to tune crome for the first tim with my ostrich I keept hitting the send button and it would fuck up and run into limp mode. So you only need to conect to the ostrich once and after that just chang it on your map and it will auto send it to your ostrich. Just make sure you verify every so often to make sure its still working. If that dosent help then follow the step by step I found here

i'm having the same problem.. my V2 worked AWESOME.. so i sold it because jose got me a fantastic deal on the V1.. low and behold, it doesn't work RTP on crome, but every other EMS works fine with it  :-\

edit; nevermind.. i thought you had a RTP issue.. not sure why you run into limp mode

1. Open crome (dont load a bin)
2. Click file, then settings,
3. Click rtp tab
4. Under Hardware select Moates Ostrich/Burn1
5. Now select your port that your ostrich is (I always pug my ostrich into the same usb port every time) baud 920000
6. Plug your ostrich into the ecu(red stripe of the ribbon to the pug side of the ecu)
? are you using a zif socket? Make sure its making full contact on all of the pins!
7. Now click detect connection
8. Open your bin now
9. click Plugins>Enhancements>Add Quickdatalogger+RTP
10. Now click the little chip picture in the tool bar at the top of the screen
11. Now the rtp tool bar will show up
12. Now click the put button in the rtp bar that just showed up.
13. Click the realtime update button
14. Start your car and just change shit as you go. (you dont have to click realtimeupdate everytime you make a change) Just make a change, wate 5 seconds and then click verrify every so often to make sure its taken the change.

Replace batteries?

*edit*

after you verify, close crome, disconnect ostrich, re connect ostrich, open crome and read. LMK what happens.

The Ostrich can be fucked and do that.  Detects, reads, writes just fine but the side of it that interfaces with the ECU is shot.

Try it on another computer, then send it to Moatsie to be checked out.

ok after doing somethings as told to me by JD in my other thread (BRE) i went and tested my ostrich and crome on a ecu i sitting around (P75). well my car is obd0 converted obd1 with an S300 so i have my plx in where ELD should be and NB is the plx nb and i am running DSM 390cc injectors.

Load a rom p30 and p28 did the normal routine removed check changed injector size etc. ostrich was detected and  sent the rom clicked real time then turned the key to on position. finally check engine light went off and so i can tune again. problem is another check engine light came on, and it would tunr off if i unchecked and rechecked Disable atmospheric pressure sensor but after a few seconds would come back on again. i have everything disabled but still would come on?

its not a big deal i will try the ecu in another car to see if this issue is something related to my car or the ecu.

88-89 HF, if I'm correct.  I don't think the 90-91 had that problem.

So I am ASSuming that you know the trick about cutting wires b9 and b11, Should get rid of all your code 13 problems in a crx hf, Ask me how many hours of my life were spent figuring that one out.

Actually, yes and no.  I had a list that Speed Phreak gave me 7-8 years ago of four or five different pins that aren't used, and I cut them all.  *BAM* the CEL went away, and my idle stopped fluctuatiing whenever I pushed in the clutch.

Try again?

I posted this on PGMFI aswell.

Ostrich 1
 * Updated firmware to run higher Baud
 * Used 3 different Ribbon cables
 * Com Port 4, Baud 920,000, Latency set to 1
 * Replaced Batteries

BRE
 * Detects Ostrich on com port 4
 * Can send rom and verify
 * In the on position Ostrich has solid cell (yes Checksum is removed)
 * Same map made Burned to chip = No solid cell car will run fine???

Crome
 * Load map, set com port, Ostrich Detected!
 * Remove Checksum, add datalogging
 * Tuner Tab Put, Then Verify and then click Real Time, Everything ok
 * Turn Key on Check Engine turns off then returns 3 seconds later Solid, briefly turn off check engine light by disabling Atmospheric Pressure sensor but comes back on after about 3 seconds?
 * Same thing as before burn a chip put it in and runs fine?

EcTune
 * Set EcTune Firmware for ostrich
 * Made a base map for a stock dx civic
 * Ostrich Detected, & Connected Rom sent to Ostrich and Verified
 * Turn Key on Solid cell?
 * Did not burn a chip because it would cost 1 customer license.

no matter what i use or do i get a solid cell when attempting to tune. here is a little more info. BRE was tested on a PR3 ECu and Crome and EcTune was on a P75 Ecu. Ostrich was also verified with Tuner Pro RT.all my firmware are up to date and i have FT cleaned my system many of times.
