honda acura has been a losing field for a few years now.  Honda owners are cheapasses, plainly put, and they will find a way to do without you and still get what they want.

Or bmw.

The honda field besides the k series crowd isnt spending the money. if Honda racing was as big as it was 5+ years ago it didnt matter if people were cheap everybody wanted to do it so the money was there.

It is just getting worse by the day.

Hardly, every now and than you can strike it lucky with those guys, but never for long. They are just about as cheap as honda guys, sometimes worse, they are usually fine with poor quality parts. I'm not just talking out of my ass here either. I've personally fabricated around 2000 vw downpipes in the last 5 years. I'm not making a killing, or anything that could be closely resembled as making a killing.

Your logo and or website isn't cool enough.  Pay me and I'll whip up a logo, fake dyno charts and a eurotrash website with some stretched tires and sticker bombed fenders and you will make full race look broke.

So I guess real dyno charts, and high quality fabrication and machining just isn't enough :-[

Dave you defiantly need to update your website. The industrial side isn't bad, but the other side needs work.

They don't care about that stuff.  There's a 59% chance they won't even put it on their car themselves.  You need a narrative with people like that and you don't want to market the engineering side of things like you would to people who actually care.  You need to market the aesthetic side and make them feel special about buying your part.  That's what makes people feel justified in spending the money.  They're buying the pretense to enhance their own personal narrative.

Mk4+ guys are Brand Name Ballaz.  The old school water cooled guys are like HMTers (they like booze, guns, women, inexpensive speed) only much much mellower.  I work with one of the latter, he draws in some of the $$$ crowd because he'll work on their cars and isn't a hack.  Some of those kids are willing to drop some skrill, some aren't, just like a lot of auto enthusiasts.

There are a lot of lisping heterosexuals in the local VW scene, though, kinda disconcerting.

also, you're dave right? this should be rather relevant to your interest.

Dave should, after all he just found the German cast head that was supposed to go on his build, but he lost and ended up with a Mexican head, that ultimately caused the demise of that motor.

The mexi head iirc was OG vw. He spend a ton of hours porting it and it end up shiting out the pre combustion chamber and that was the end of the motor.

The German head that he wanted to use for the build, but misplaced it until recently is Genuine VW.

I haven't talked to Craig for a long time, but our wives talk here and there, so I really don't know the whole story.

What I do know:
-I will have Tunertoys block fittings and drain flanges like nothing happened.
-Tunertoys had little overhead, just like myself.

With the way we both run things, I'd have to speculate that a tax break, or other legal benefit would lead to filing for bankruptcy. I would think that in a tough time, or a point where he simply wanted out I would have been offered TT, just as I've offered Stealthmode to him, but I didn't get that offer. That's why the bankruptcy route would seem to be a legal benefit somehow or another. It's true that the economy has slowed sales, but these aren't career business, they're fun challenges. At different points these small businesses have supported a wife staying home, or a slow winter painting season, but I'm confused how a stagnant business could lead to an official closing, unless it's for the reasons I stated above. Just speculation though.

Craig is probably the most standup guy I've met in either of my businesses dealings, and he still will be. I'll still have the things that TT made a name of, and the chinese rods and extra stuff that he had good deals on will have to be sourced from one of the other bazillions of sellers.

hondas peaked back in 2003, since then it has been a dying crowd.  I remember back in those days it wasn't uncommon to see a nicely done up civic or integra that was turbo'd and relatively quick with tasteful mods.  Now the only hondas you see are beat to shit ones owned by beaners with altezza lights and APC racing, RRRRRRRRR rAcINGG stickers all over the car.  Hondas have gotten gay, and the scene has gotten even gayer than the beaners driving the hondas these days.

Wow guys, thanks for all of the kind words.  TunerWife and I always took customer service seriously, and it really validates our efforts to have you guys speak so well of us and what we tried to do with TunerToys.

The most basic story is that several things led to the demise of TunerToys.

 - the crash of the economy
 - the continual decline of the Honda/Import performance market
 - the constant scrapping and battling for tiny margins on products
 - the time required to maintain an online presence

The next chapter in the story will be written soon, but will be in a new direction.  Not sure what that will be yet, but I can't sit still for long.

The nice thing about bankruptcy, is that once it is closed, you can up a new company the next day. Once the bankruptcy is over and settled, I'll be a little more active on the site and open little about things.

We are happy to remain the hookup for SEMA, because even if we do not attend ourselves. Having folks attend under our company name, keeps us in an active SEMA Member status, which we do not want to loose.

RHMT is our home site, we'll always be here in one form or another.
