It was decided that VW was going to buy them months ago.  They have just been hammering out the details.

VW cant fuck with the porsche cars for like 2-3 years because of legally binding contracts with suppliers.  Most likely expect to find Porsche stuff in VW and not the other way around.

I dont really care honestly, its not going to affect me.  In less than 2 years the wife will be finished with nursing school and im buying a Cayman and an EVO, and I'll sit at home and take care of the kids.

I dunno ive driven some quick 930's but they are scary as fuck at speed.  996 Turbo is a tad bit more and they'll make more power for next to nothing in mods and wont feel like they are trying to kill you.

Sewell needs to post the pics of his 930 supra killa.

Bummer.

I agree with the 930 trying to kill you at speed, really all the early aircooled 911's were that way, but that is part of the experience. I still love their style and love driving them. Really digging the 997tt as well however, just not likely I'll ever have one of those.

Funny how I recall all the M-T long-term test rusults ending with most Porsches needing more small, yet costly repairs than the shittiest Kia or old Hyundai.

It's a factory racecar, and they extend the drivetrain warranty if your attitude doesn't suck when you come in.  Worst case half off.

Meh, now that Boxsters are piss cheap on the second hand market, this will just mean that Porsches will just become more and more tools for the financed to the hilt type.

VW dealers will soon be servicing them with fixed price repairs and servicing.

Still want a mid 80s 930 turbo fiddled with by RUF. Once got three hot laps of the 'ring in one. There are some benefits to being in Europe :D

True, but there's something about a 4 speed box. Besides, 5 speed 930s are kinda rare, we only got them for 89 :( I don't like the 964 either

VW hasn't been associated with success for about twenty years.

From what I understand of the 2.0T, they may be embracing Quality again.

Truth.  The g50 is stronger and better gear'd.  The long 4speed gears + shitty k26/27 design = turbo lag.

Im not a big fan of the 997tt.  The 996tt is the same car without the VTG turbos your gonna toss in the trash before you hit 550 anyway. Plus the 996tt are DIRT fucking cheap.  Ive seen $40,000 for sub 50k models in mint condition.

I watched an '87 930 clone (NA car converted to 930) with a 5 speed swap go for $31-32K today on Barrett-Jackson.  They were dissing the car for not being original, the five speed apparently detracts from the resale value in West Palm.

Seriously? 40k for a 996tt?
I'm not real familiar with the 993 and later 911 turbos. I thought they did some improvements to the actual engine for the 997? Any differences in the rest of the drivetrain or suspension?

Only thing I really hate about 996 is the front end.

Was it a 911 turbo look (basically a 930 with a NA engine that was a factory option) or an actual 911 with welded on fenders and the whole bit?

Thats a hell of a lot of money for a copy, you can get nice factory 930's for that much any day of the week.

I'm slacking on pics of my 930, hopefully soon i'll be working on it  :) I'm doing a g50 tranny swap to my 930,  if i wouldn't have sold my 4 speed for a mint i would just put it back in. Bad move on my part.

The factory 930 clutch is a beast, it'll hold 750hp.

The gearing on the 4 speed box is long as fuck, and the laggy k26 makes it seem 10 times worse. They are notchy as hell. IMO, The orginal 4 speed 930 is stronger than g50, factory says g50-50or52(turbo boxes) are rated for more tq but in the real world 930 boxes just don't break from to much power, i've personally seen a a few high hp g50 cars puke the diffs due to the side covers breaking.

I'd rather have a 930 over any of the newer models, if i hit the lotto first thing i'd do is go buy another 930.  An early 930 is argueably the best driving experience there is (not some bs new bwm that does the driving for you), not the fastest, or best handling, but the car just has a quality about it that can't be described, you and the car become one, connected to the road..........well unless you puss out going around a turn and let off the gas causing massive overstear, in which case you won't be on the road anymore :)

The 4spds are definitely strong, but they feel too much like a 1942 ford tractor.

Damn, what you are saying is making me crave aircooled 911.
