D16A6
« on: August 10, 2009, 02:49:40 PM »

hi, i got my DOHC ZC block damaged beacuse it had some helicois shits and here there is a repair shop that can repair it but the solution they give me, doesnt like to me so much so i was wondering if i can fit a SOHC D16A6 block and use the log manifold and made for my DOHC ZC, i dont wanna waste more money making another log manifold for this engine, and i can't get any DOCH ZC block to good price so far.

let me know guys!

Wally, you might have to modify your downpipe.  I don't see why the log wouldn't fit though.

You cant even send an engine block 500 miles without it being over 60 dollars

I shipped an intake manifold which weighs 12 pounds to england priority mail only way you can ship now no more boat service and it was almost 75 bucks for 12 POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm 90% sure that the DOHC ZC head won't bolt to the SOHC without serious machinework. You should check it out carefully before you proceed. Of course, you can make a SOHC head flow just as well as ur DOHC with some minor work.

i think all he wanted to know was if his log mani and tranny thats on his current blown ZC with fit on an A6.

the answer is yes...for everything but the intake manifold.

yes, that's what i meant, well o assembly everything excep head that ill replace valve seats and clean it a bit too, i measured rod and journal bearings with gauge, what i dont udnerstand is in the plastigage big size is more narrow than little sizes i means 0.025mm is more wide than 0.075mm.. and in haynes manual says for instance standar sizes : 0.024 to 0.042mm , like 0.042 is more wide.. idk if u  understand what i means  :mexi:

i know it but i means.

0.01 < 0.03 , right?

why 0.01 is widest than 0.03 if 0.03 is bigger?

why 0.01 is widest than 0.03 if 0.03 is bigger?

if im reading this right, its cause .01 is less clearance, therefore it smashes the plastigage more and makes it wider, as opposed to the .03 which had more clearance and smashes it down less. like if you were to hammer a piece of copper or something soft, the more you hammer it, the thinner it becomes, and the wider it becomes, because the material has to go somewhere...

does that help?

Here's something anyone can grasp - take a big fucking hammer, smash your finger. With less clearance between the floor and the hammer head, your finger must get wider.

IMO there's too much shittalking about the dohc zc head + regular d16 block hybrid to make much sense. However this link sound like it is doable: http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1079426 The problem is the rpr link I found, saying the newer blocks shift the head sideways: http://www.redpepperracing.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=33980&pid=346411&mode=threaded&show=&st=#entry346411

However...an A6 or Z6 head will be a better option if possible from a power standpoint. I've never seen ZC dynos that proved it was worth the trouble. Add a cheap zex/delta cam or regrind, and you're lightyears ahead.

Here is a picture of the OEM gasket on a D16A1 head (same as DOHC ZC)

This is a SOHC D16 gasket on the same head

You will have the reverse of this problem and your ports will not line up exactly. This can probably be remedied with a die grinder and work just fine, but they will not line up exactly.

I don't think you need to put a new flange on your log. You can probably slot the holes and slide the log manifold down a bit.
