loud ac compressor
« on: August 26, 2009, 11:14:52 AM »

-00 civic ex 4dr auto

so i just finished up a factory swap in it, all is well except for the ac compressor, it is loud as fuck. sounds like its scraping/ginding when its not on, once the ac is on it quiets doewn a bit.

wondering what i should swap out, preferably without recharging the system.

also if anyone has a spare knock sensor PM me :D

im just gonna take the belt off once it cools down some

Sounds like the clutch on it is dead. Usually it's possible to change without removing the comp, but by possible I mean a biiiiiitttcccchhhhhh and then some. Turn the a/c off engine on and see if the compressor is turning any or sparaticaly. Then turn a/c on and see if ti's turning like it should, or slipping, etc.

its turning kinda sparaticly when its on, when the ac is on it works fine and is ice cold so no need to recharge it.

I sprayed some PB blaster in there to lube it up  O0 but no help

I think the belt will come off and it will be postponed until summer :-P lol

If its not the clutch bearings prob on its way out.  The crv/elements make noise like that then they explode.

The clutch when new has a small clearance, like .020" or something like that. When they get wore out they'll be more like .040" or more. Eventually they wear out to the point it won't grab and it slips, or it just falls apart.
