I would ask some questions before picking it up. you might be doing him more a favor than anything.

Like what does he mean by the computer needs "reprogramming"? Reprogramming as in the controller is fucked? And if you need parts I doubt you'll find them. I've never even heard of Maho machines.

Sounds like maybe the machine lost all its parameters. It also doesn't state if its an old point to point machine for simultaneous 3 axis control. It says NC, which could very possibly imply the old point to point maho's which are a nightmare! They are really just a manual mill with power feeds more than anything, only you can't use them manually if there are computer issues, the machine is rendered useless because you won't be able to turn on the spindle.

If you have any pictures post them up I am very familiar with these machines. When working they are a quality German machine but the early ones had gremlins that aren't worth free.

You know, provided that the machine is mechanically sound, and the servo motors are in good shape, if you or someone you know is good with electrical work, you could convert the machine to be run off a PC running MACH 3 or some other similar CNC controller software.

If the main controller it has is fucked, that might be a good solution.
