New Chevy Truck
« on: August 30, 2009, 10:36:37 PM »

Just picked up this beast yesterday.  It is a 1985 C10 with only 80,000 miles.  Body is in excellent shape except for some minor rust and a dent on the rear quarter panel.  The 305 is missing a little when i accelerate.  Going to tune it up next weekend.  Got it for $600.
I removed the running boards today and gave it a good pressure washing.  This thing is a beast...

If it's TBI, turboing it's not difficult from a tuning standpoint.  You could probably get away with a 454 TBI and low boost on a T3/T04E.  A lot of the later TBI ECUs were also used for the TPI (MPFI) stuff, so a TPI intake and a set of injectors and you're good to go.

I'm pretty certain you're carby, though.

Nice score and if its got a miss i bet its got a flat cam. Put in a roller cam and through a single turbo with 6 or 10 psi boodt you will love it.

Correct.

Johnny, do not argue with the Grand Wizard about EFI.  I am rarely wrong, and if I were to be then you'd all have to witness the awkward embarrassment of watching a grown man cry.  No one wants to see that.

Yeah it's carbed...
I wonder if it could spool single HX40?  Might have to go to a 35...
I'm going to get some old bushings replaced and get the suspension sorted out.  Then start working on the engine.  Everybody is saying that the 305 is a paperweight and that i should get a 350...  This whole V8 shit is new to me ;D

LOL that things had 80,000 on it a few times over. it only has a five digit odometer so it just rolls back to zero.

HX-40 is only a 60mm charger, it will spool fine.

I had an 85 silverado with a 305 in it that missed out. Come to find out it was more than a miss. Couple cam lobes were worn flat.

I asked you in your build thread why you used a station wagon engine and you ignored me.

Sorry i miss read the question i thought it was based towards the poster  a few  responses  above yours. I did the build for 2 reasons. First one is the 305 with smaller pistons  is can and will do rpms easier and the second is that i like being different and the 305  is the same as the 350 except the  piston size.  Oh and i got a sreaming deal on the pistons so i did up a roller cam 305 to run 20 psi or more just to show what the staition wagon engine can do and theres a lot of them out there. ;D Even my machinist guy  scoffed at me and said why you doing that  and i said exactly  as i chuckled.

Small bore is more volatile.  I'd rather have the bore than the rpm, but I guess in a streetcar it doesn't matter.

in fact i might have an edlebrock rpm performer intake and a 650 edlebrokc carb too.  lemme know if you are interested and ill go look.
