HELP! Oil Pump leaking (spewing) on Z6 build

So we just finished my buddys vitara build. Started it up everything seemed fine then we looked at the timing side and it's covered in oil. Appears to be leaking from the oil pump. It's a brand new pump from Autozone. Don't know WTF is going on. It's not just a little bit either it was like spewing oil. Pulled it off and it looks fine. Double checked the manual to make sure we put it on right and we did it all by the book. Need help it lost like half a quart in less than 3 minutes.

no gasket, honda bond it. Is it leaking around the pump or at the crank seal?

Is it leaking out the weep hole?

Or is the the relief valve cap tightened down with  a seal ring?

Sounds like SBC stuff to me.

I think the only external passages on the oil pump are the takeoff that's plugged and the relieve valve with the spring.

Pretty much.

Pretty sure that a weep hole exists on a water pump because the seal is inboard of the bearing, thus allowing coolant an easier path than through the bearing itself.  I could be wrong though.

You lucked out those vatozone pumps are total garbage. If you like spun bearings keep it.



Go to honda and spend the 100 bucks and get an oem unit

Well it was only leaking while it was running. It wasn't leaking when we turned the car off.

Aftermarket oil pump did some purty good damage to my cylinder head. Cam journals to be specific.
