here is a comparison between a 2.5" downpipe being replaced with a 3" downpipe, both on a 5 bolt t3 outlet flange.  basically, how i do it is i take a 3" pipe, weld it onto the flange almost all the way around except near the 3 bolt holes that are close to the pipe.  i throw it in my arbor press and use a rounded off punch to press the divot in the pipe to make clearance for the bolt head, then weld around it.

good idea. I realized I should have done this (dent the pipe around the bolts) right after I got done welding mine out and finding out the bolt heads hit the welds... Will do this next time for sure.

I did that on my last 2 downpipes, the only problem is trying to get a fucking wrench on it. What works best is to not center it, and give that middle bolt as much room. That way the top/bottom holes have more clearance to start with. A ball-end allen wrench will solve most problems, but recently I decided a hmt flange drilled for a Garrett GT 3" 4-bolt flange would be better. I have some cad drawings that shows it working, in theory... I don't think many people would like a flange for a flange, but it's tits if you want a more compact setup than a v-band.

Fuck a 5-bolt flange... mine is horrible, can only squeeze four of the 5 bolts in. Will be going to a 5-bolt to V-band flange very soon.

Good job though, if mine had those parts punched in I probably wouldn't have a problem.

hiprofile. your right on the offset working very good for keeping the bolt spacing as far away as possible. i done this and it works good.  :yes:

Comon Weir we aren't idiots... Besides, a hammer is the first thing I use in every situation; whether it be smashing flush a protruding screw or cracking eggs for breakfast.

nice work weir.

we did this on my buddys 3inch down pipe.  tacked to either side of the bolt hole. used a punch to dent it, then welded it up!

worked good!
