anyone know anything about chimneys?
« on: October 05, 2009, 01:55:39 PM »

Quick question about chimneys. When I purchased my home they/the inspector said it needed a chimney liner. No big deal...im starting to get around to doing just that...but my chimney is square/rectangle. Every liner I have found is round. Do you stuff the round liner into the square hole? My dampener at the top is square.

I have a fireplace, not a wood burning stove. It seems to me that in looking at shit online and in lowes/home depot...a brick chimney is a liner in itself.

you don't need a liner in a fireplace.

like whats his face said they use em on wood stoves because they can get really hot... its like something you can use for installation so it doesn't start a fire

I've never heard of anyone using a flue for a fireplace..  and google images "chimney liner" is showing me dudes putting liners (flexible flues really) down brick chimneys for a wood stove.

Shows ceramic things in the brick

thats what I am finding also. Flues/liners are only needed for stoves. I have a fireplace. You open the dampner and it goes straight into the brick lined chimney.

I think all cop cars need to have turbo. nbspnbsp Then they would understand the necessity of putting your foot down and how uncontrollable the urge is to fucking rail on that shit.

That's my thinking also. If I had a wood cased chimney I think it would be a different story. In that case I would line it.

I don't, its 100% brick from the top to the bottom and very clean except for some cobwebs. I dont think it has been used in many years.

So im glad I am thinking correctly. All I really need is a new cap. sweet.

Call someone out to look at it.

I'm lucky to be alive today, found a flue issue last night from when roof was replaced over the summer.

What's a little brain damage among RHMTers?  Worst case scenario, widebuddy has someone who can relate to him as an equal.

Would still have low level CO poisoning, something most pass off as a cold or flu like.

My father (RIP) worked for local utility company in gas service division, so I had an idea WTF was going on.

He got a service award for dragging three black kids out of a house due to CO poisoning, the mother called the cops, later once calmed down, she thanked him.
