god that 20v vw is such a letdown engine, ive only drivin one once but i was expecting 4age type response. man was i wrong, and its got a fucking turbo!
A buddy of mine has gone through 3 20v 1.8t in his Passat in less than 100k miles.
Thats cause its an Longitudinal mounted unit. Teh horizontal mounted ones are much better, but still 1.8t fail.
That being said, teh 2.0t is a FAR better engine, and is VERY reliable believe it or not.
Lol. Are you referring to the 2.0 turbo? If so, I know a VW tech that heartily disagree with you.
lol yes, I own one and will reference 10 VW techs who will disagree with your one, sir. The motor (in a vw) has very few problems, all of which are well documented and easily repaired. Not calling your friend a liar or anything, just giving the big picture as it were.
Just so you know, in my mind anything that is "reliable" is anything that is aprox. 10X better than a 96-02 toyota camry or corolla. So yes, the MK5's are quite reliable, and compared to the failure RSX type-S that I traded for it, has been well worth it. If you want a full account of my experiences with these particular vehicles, feel free to pm me and I'll jump on the soap box lol.
