my votes:

- 4.3L V6T syclone/typhoon motor.

- jag or BMW V12 if you want a 'holy shit' factor when you pop the hood. or the toyota 1GZ V12 if you can find one. though, for the bimmers at least, they breathe so poorly you'd need boost to make much above 300. not really an ideal performance setup, but would make for some nice "when you see it, you will shit bricks" posters.

- northstars are pretty cheap and easy nowadays.

I'm going to toss in my vote for Lincoln Mk8, but one caveat: they may be a 4V, but they aren't the Cobra 4V.  Some corners were cut and if you want to breathe on it you'll have to replace a few things.

same block, but non-forged internals, and the intake mani flows slightly worse.  they will still hold 400+whp just fine.  if you want to boost a bunch just toss in some pistons and rods and you should be good to go.

Jag XJS.  You can grab them for only a couple grand, and if you are rewiring everything, you escape the problems that all British made cars had in that era.

How about All wheel Drive. You can pick up a wrecked WRX for cheap. I've seen wrecked STI's go for 10K or less and the drive train was mostly intact. A million things you can do to it also. Plus in a truck frame that motor would not be as much of a bitch to work on either. The auto wrx boxes are pretty stout from what i understand as well. Maybe a flat six out of an outback.
The LS1 Fbodys are not too bad of an idea but pretty common to see.
The mk3 supras are cheap and plentiful and have decent aftermarket support.
As far as the BMW the 850i V12 would be cool too see in a truck.
To be really unique the porsche 908 racing flat 8 would be cool to see but not practical in a truck cool none the less
Audi S4's in the A5 chassis like 1997-2001 can be had for 10k or less AWD Twin turbo V6 with aftermarket support

Just a few ideas not all had the 300hp from the factory but most can easily get there with very minor mods. My vote is something all wheel drive.

I like 1UZ, but you need to get an early big rod motor and brethe on it.  Check the SC-oriented forums, the actual power to the wheels isn't that great.  If the vehicle the drivetrain goes into sheds a few hundred lbs then it'd probably be really zippy, just FYI.

Damn JD beat me to it.  Yeah UZ are only good stock in the early forms with big rods -92. The 2UZ is a waste of time with its pencil thin rods that break on stock tundras.

Vote is still for a 2JZ-GE.  Hone it out for the turbo P2W clearance, turbo pistons for $40 each and make a shitload of power for pocket change.

Yep, but the only way to get a complete donor car in rear wheel drive is with the Cadillac cars, and then only 2004 and up cars...

HP to Weight is not too bad, a few hundred pounds heavier for the truck.  Wheel base is close.  My only concern is the stock hp rating of the EJ motors. If I pick up a later EJ255 I can get 230Hp factory hp, but that will be further weakened by the additional vehicle weight.  I could end up 30% off from my hp target when it's all together.

I really love the sound of the boxer engine tho.  It would really turn some heads just on the distinctive sound alone...

Anything can be done, but it just seems like a far less than ideal situation.

If the donor car is complete enough, I may forgo the frame, and just graft the body of the truck onto the donor vehicle.  That way, other than wheelbase / track changes of a few inches, the fab work is minimal.

VZ and JZ bellhousings interchange.  I can get parts for 2JZ over the counter at O'reillys and auto zone.

I agree with you the RB is different, but IMO the 2JZ is the better engine.
