Honda dealership parts prices - you cannot be serious.
« on: November 18, 2009, 07:47:30 PM »

They wanted almost $14 for a pair of washers for the fuel feed line (for the banjo fitting), $11.xx for a fuel rail stud and $11.xx for a throttle body gasket.

WTF PEOPLE?

I basically told them to eat shit and I wasn't paying that.

$14 for (2) 1/2" washers? c'mon thats just re-fucking-diculous

Tell me about it.

Most of the time you can find replacements at a good hardware store, not always.

I use replacement banjo washers from parts stores for about 0.50 to 1.50usd. ;D

Gaskets, I'll either gasket paper from parts store or if I feel like being uber cheap I cereal boxes.  ;)

A) You get a big discount at the online dealership shops

B) Your local honda worker can get shit at ~5% over cost. I'm seriously thinking about doing this with an ITR trans.

C) Grainger/etc has access to any sort of widget you'd need like that.

As far as that one washer for the fuel pulser thing on the rail, it actually is one-off since it has teeth on the inside so fuel can move through it.

Silicone gasket maker for the throttle body gasket. 2 bucks a tube and has enough to do 20 throttle bodies

Also I agree if you are lucky enough to have an old school hardware store/fastener store. I order all my stuff from a small local shop and they stock alot of automotive stuff too for the independent car repair shops

MOST of the time, they don't cost near that much.  i worked parts at an acura dealer and we worked on a matrix system.  for example a $2 would sell for like $19, but a $100 would just be marked up to like $105.  the parts guy basically didn't feel like fucking with your little order so he gave you high prices to go away so he could do a big body shop order.

i have personally sold a few bolts for $100+ before several times.  it just to make more money because the parts guys get paid off the profit made, and it looks good to hold a high percentage of profit.

I've got an ACE hardware about 6 miles down the road and a mom&pop about 4 miles the other way.

We've got a Fastenall in town but they won't sell anything in less than a qty of 100.  The Fastenall in AL used to sell me whatever I wanted....fags.

The only reason I went to the dealership for parts is because I ordered a plastic bushing thing for the CRV that the hood prop rotates in.  Without it, it rattles and is annoying.

Already made a gasket for the IAT from gasket paper.  I'll probably stick to my roots and make/find the rest of the shit too.  Figured I'd save a few minutes just getting those "nickel and dime" items but didn't know they'd try to ream me THAT hard.

The washers I was inquiring about were in fact the copper ones for the banjo fitting. $6.80 or some shit each.

it just to make more money because the parts guys get paid off the profit made, and it looks good to hold a high percentage of profit.

oh well that explains a lot.

i buy whatever i can else where and only buy what i have to or need right away at the dealership. i usually leave pissed or feeling ripped off. sometimes i feel ok lol. the guy trys to give me a discount usually, but a disscount on a rip off is still a rip off.

I needed a throttle body gasket a while back and no one had one. I ended up making one from a cereal box lol. Worked fine. Friend of mine bought a old dodge truck from an old timer and half the gaskets where cereal box or silicone lol. the carb, t-stat, and intake gaskets where all cardboard.

All autopart stores have tons of those washers loose in metal drawers. Ask to look through the brakeline boxes.

next time make up a shop name and ask them "hey, all i need to set up an account is a tax ID, right?"  THEN ask about your parts you need.  they will usually just sell it to you at wholesale.

usually if I need weird parts that can't be gotten at a normal parts store, I go to the junkyard.  If you just need some little shit like some bolts and washers they'll laugh at you if you try to pay them for it. FREE, the best way, everytime.

they gotta pay my commission check some how...  :-*

like said above, our shit is on a matrix. but really, anything under a like 300bucks, its probably priced double what cost is. prices that Majestic and acuraautomotiveparts.org are selling shit for is about what we pay for employee, like 15-20% above cost...

as for your washers, as long as you dont need the one with the holes in it, you can just steal them out of the fuel filter boxes at autozone/csk/whatever...

I just use discount code NAA5120, good for 20% off list.

Most dealerships have caught on, employees only get 15% off instead of the 5% over cost like they used to.

I can get new OEM GSR distributor housings (has sensors, no coil and no ignitor) for $105.  Oil pumps run about $90.  All through Wes... the parts manager at the local dealer looks on him like a nephew, gave him a set of 16" factory alloys for some Sport package on the Fit for $200.
