what kind of power?
« on: December 06, 2009, 01:53:18 PM »

Just doing some thinking, what kind of power can be made on the cheap with a b20 vtec? Stock b16 head, maybe some cams, high compression pistons, itbs (there is a reason for these) now I dont know what will fit for a header, might have to stay with a stock type r mainifold.

No I'm not going gay, there just isn't room for boost and its not needed anyways.  I am not a na guy so I have never paid attention to this kind of thing.

I'm goin to try to buy 4 minis this weekend, wish me luck.

I was goin to run a 1000 cc street bike engine but I think a na b series would be better for the same amount of work.

As I was putting a water pump in the white bastard here at work I was thinking, all motor dual side draft carbed zc......................... What?  O0

more sleepless nights laying in bed planing needed  :P.

Eh, a local managed 189 WHP on a stock B20Z bottom end with a Stock P72 head on a Dynojet.

I don't remember the torque, but I was pretty impressed for being a bolt together frank.

Mreh.

Highroller, sell me a Mini and ship it for cheap.  I have too many A6s laying around...

TurboHf made 230hp if I remember right.

219.31whp 147.62ft tq

THE SETUP:

Block:
B20B block (stock sleeves 84mm)
RS Machines "JDM ITR" Pistons (84mm)
Eagle Specialties Products Forged H-Beam rods
PR4/89mm Crankshaft
ACL bearings
P8R Honda Headgasket
Endyn Oil Plumbing kit (sandwich plate w/STEEL adapter)
Golden Eagle dowel pins
P72 headbolts
ITR oil pump
PCT crank pulley
Royal Purple Synthetic 5w30 oil
Filtech/Honda oil filter
custom breather box setup (OEM Honda nipples off the back of the block)
baffled PR4 oil pan

Head:
P72 head
stock portwork + cleanup
Skunk2 PRO2+ Camshafts
Skunk2 PRO Valvesprings
Skunk2 Ti retainers
Skunk2 Cam gears (I+3 E+2)
ITR Intake valves
ITR Lost Motion Assemblies

Engine misc:
AEBS intake manifold portmatched by PBTuning
PBTuning 70mm Throttle Body
P73 throttle cable and bracket

Fuel:
B16A2 billet fuel rail
390cc injectors
OEM Honda resistor box
Walbro 255lph High Pressure intank fuel pump (re-wired DSM style)

Exhaust:
Big Tube Tri-Y header ("Hytech")
Omni-Power 2.5" Test Pipe
Apex-i World Sport 2 exhaust

little copy/paste action... should be enough info? but that is my setup i was running... was ok for NA i guess...

looking back: spent too much money. not enough power. cams without stock (CTR) primary lobes idle like shit. stock rods would have been fine. restrictive exhaust kills power. non-restrictive exhaust on built NA sounds like a powerful ricer honda (no, still not better).
there was more power in it (5-10hp)... but there was even more power in a stock B18C  :-*

What about a supercharger? Think the JRSC kit would fit?

If you can shove a supercharged K into a classic Mini, then I don't really see why it wouldn't.

A jrsc would not fit, the factory b and d series intake mani has to be cut through the runners and turned up towards the hood. Most people clamp 45 degree couplers in them.

A d series would fit the best but then I would boost it and there goes the extra space and wieght savings, a b series would be good but everyone has that. Im unsure yet, might go back to the r1 motor since I have it but time will tell.

I'm ASSuming it would be fwd? I would say s2k engine if it was rwd.  How much would one of these minis weigh?  I just feel like you'd want more torque than an r1 would offer.  But recalling videos of the (was it a busa engine?) powered smart car, if it was that light, fucking do it.  That thing was sick.

As I was putting a water pump in the white bastard here at work

I had to flat rate both rear u-joints in my truck at -21 below celcius..... It fucking sucked.
That and I had the wrong parts 4 times. It was a inside locking type with a strap style to attach to the rear diff. OMFG it was shitty and cold outside when I was doing this thing.

I actually thought it was a tranny problem because it would only do it under load.......... Problem fixed. I thought of you Chad
