need stepper motor control ideas.
« on: September 16, 2009, 09:40:59 PM »

ok, got 2 holset VGT's want to use the stock stepper for the VGT function.

3 phase motor.  I think.  I'd like to control it with a PWM circuit or a hi-lo stitching circuit. Possibly the PWM could be attached to an internal capactior to buffer and steady the signal.  Not sure how to go about all of this.

I know I will need a power, ground, and control input circuits.  but to make something to run it in and out according to the signal is where my knowledgabilities of electronics fail.

Any ideas?

I doubt that's 3 phase.  Scan both sides of the control board.

its a 6 phase motor then.  I was just trying to figure out if I could do somthing like this, if not I will simply use a 1/8 scale R/C servo

will post pics later of the board.

Meh, I really hate calling a DC-based H-bridge inverter drive 3 phase.  If it's anything if the sort.

Post pics of the board NOW, or I drive to AL and kick your MR2.

There appeared to be 3 proximity sensors for the motor, they broke upon removal

Unmolested it looks like this:

How about usable pictures?  Ones where I can make out the components.

How about you use the scanner on the fax/scan/printer all-in-one unit at your workplace, and bring me something I can see.  It's hard reversing a board without being able to figure out wtf the chips are or having half a clue where the traces go.

my understanding is the ECM uses CAN to communicate with this motor.

the board is about 4 or 5 layers, not many visable traces

Communication protocol is what it is.

What chip directly controls the motor is something else entirely.

I'll just use a servo to simplify it.  it'll look RHMT.  I got other shit to occupy my time and thoughts right now

No, he said he'd use a servo.   :mexi:

I'll just use a 1/8 scale R/C high torque servo to control it from the EMS.  The project has time.  Getting my ass divorced and out from this shithole is my current priority.  Later when I have the time/money, expect some VGT craziness.
