Say a company comes out with coupons. Then an employee hoards the coupons. Then the employee uses the coupons when customer pays cash, and pockets the savings from the coupon. I cant figure out if this is illegal or not. I know i can be fired for it, but can i be arrested? Its such easy money that it has to be illegal.

Yeah it is illegal b/c your ripping off the customer. Seen this done in the retail discount parts biz. most likely you would only get fired.

Depends on your job's accounting and asset protection management how long you can get with it before your caught.

See i was thinking more along the lines of it ripping the company off of their advertising money. I know when the coupons come out and i go get them before anyone else can. Its been going on since the day i started and i have been at the same place for over a year. If they fire me i wont care because thats the only way to make money there.

The customer is unaware of the discount and doesn't have the coupon, therefore you're only screwing the company. Most companies use statistics and they'll become suspicious-

IE:

Cashier A: Total # of transactions 2,000 (Let's say this is the average)
Total # of coupons received 40 (2% of the total transactions)

Cashier B: Total # of transactions 1,500 (Let's say this is you)
Total # of coupons received 150 (10%)

Of course these are completely made up, but if your numbers are 5 times higher, they'll figure it out. But, it really depends on the company. Yes it's illegal... I dunno if they'd call it theft or embezzlement, the 2nd one sounds classier.

I did not ask if it was stupid. It might be, but at the same time on the average month its an extra $600-$750 of untaxed money in my pocket. And i figured it was illegal based on how easy it was to make that money. I would not calll it fraud because the company hands them out to be used so i use them. Im basically trading the company 1 coupon for ten dollars. Every time i enter the coupon into the transaction im asking the company to trade, and every time it accepts. Jago if you came to my city i would give you one so you can save money

imo that's stealing. that's like stealing from the company. If you wanna screw over the company why not just give the unknowing customers the coupons? Of course this would yeild no extra dollars in your pocket, but makes less money for the company.

besides if you do that, doesn't it so up on the customers reciept that a discount was applied? So now if the customer tries to get a refund, then you are stealing from the customer.

I'd do if if there is no reciept for the customer, MAYBE.
